Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

600GB platters at 7200 RPM are still not bad. Do Hitachi drives work in RIAD?

It is interesting that Hitachi ignored the advancing format this time around.

Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

It is still more than half and meanwhile HDs are cheaper too. At that rate I will be old dead before capacities and price of SSDs and HDs are in parity.

I received the silly Egg e-mail recommending accessories. How exactly is an internal 500GB notebook drive an accessory to an internal 640GB notebook drive? :nono: Do I really need one of these? :bsmurf:

    When to Build New System

I don't want to recover the data as it is not unique. I lamented the dead drive and now I need to figure out how to efficiently destroy the data.

Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

I'm not so sure it will be as soon as many think. Not that much SSD capacity/price progress has been made in the past year. 10 years ago many were proclaiming that tape would be a dead storage medium and it is still progressing.

What can I use to synchronize the Outlook 2003 PST files on two home networked computers? I've tried several random sharewares with little luck. Typically I want to boot one computer for checking the websites, receiving/sending e-mails, etc. for the times that accessing files on the main...

SSDs - State of the Product?

The Callisto is too plain and blocky to be cute. ;) It is a bit faster on another controller. The SSD is oddly a bit thicker than the usual 9.5 mm drive. Don't you think it will be a good Christmas present for someone as a boot drive? :)

    Cases

After reading everything I could find online, I spent a few days searching stores in a 50mi radius for cases a couple of weeks ago. Overall I was disappointed that cases are more complicated and flimsier than they were 10 years ago; for example more plastic materials and gimmicky mountings are...

I did not notice the the hollow enclosure sound in the Antec Soldana II system because the main system was so much louder before the replacement. It's pretty typical. The modern 5400 RPM drives are quite efficient at idle.

    Samsung 2 TB, eco-5400 rpm

Basically the Samsung F4 has achieved similar STR to a WD 7200 RPM 4-platter drive from a year ago. The latter does not use the advancing format. A 3-platter 2TB 7200 RPM drive would be nice.
