From what I gather they mostly use a 2-port USB header, one for the USB port and one for the readers. There are also a few devices described as hubs. Maybe I'll see what is available at Fry's next week if they are all pretty much the same junk.
I'll think about it next year.
Meanwhile there is another problem. My disk is too thin. When inserted into the slot it rotates and gets stuck before going all the way.
I have some similar ones from Thermaltake. They work just fine for USB, but you need a controller with PM capability to see both drives in eSATA mode.
There are no IDE toasters AFAIK, because the IDE spec does not support hot swapping. I've destroyed some drives that way. ;)
Did you see the post here? That was after an unknown period of use, maybe 25-50times. The actual performance is much worse than STR indicates. It was slower than an old 200GB 5400 RPM notebook drive for example.
It is power like kW. I think in many more advanced countries that is the unit anyway. Horsepower is a ridiculous, ancient unit about as stupid as a yard or pint, etc. :tounge:
Torque is force-distance. Don't they teach these things in elementary school (or whatever it is now) any more?
I'm not sure what to call it, but I seek one of those 5.25" front panel dealies that has a couple of USB ports and SF, SDHC, etc. sockets. Are any of them worth a damn? Technically I only need USB, but may as well have more. Thanks.
I have more faith in the enterprise grade SSDs. Presumably they are designed for more write cycles and have more reserved space. Likewise larger drives are theoretically more reliable with respect to wear. By the time 1TB SSDs are inexpensive, the wear factor my not be such an issue. 3000...
I'm not sure why you need four partitions, but TI worked fine with two partitions on my WD 750GB advancing format drive. I used Acronis to restore the C: partition from a smaller drive and resized C: as desired. I booted the restored OS, created and formatted a second partition in Windows, and...
That is correct. Or if you have aligned a partition, made an image, and restored it to the same drive it will remain aligned. I believe that started with TI 2010. I remember the issue with my 750GB notebook drive in the spring.
Yes, it can be annoying, but I'm not so upset as you.
I'm just glad it does not keep blaring at me with a sign that IE6 is out of date as others do. :D
I'm not viewing anything illegal; I just want to view static images. It must be a Windows problem because both monitors display the POST and the first XP screen, then the second display blanks out.
I don't understand the point either. It looks like some German or other European students with nothing better to do. Maybe they could sell it to the government.
I have not done it in years, and it may not be worth the trouble anyway.
I'll most likely be on vacation in parts of December, so if it is not replaced in a week I'd be concerned about a box lying around or being returned to the sender.
I have a few retail drive boxes and would put that in...
