I have two LG HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drives.

Now that's not too hard (I think). I've used a manual HDR process using layer masks based on the image itself for all my HDR efforts.

Ddrueding likes his RAW files the same way he likes his cars... Well abused. :D

    And the answer is NO.

 I've never messed with it to that extreme. Usually I just do +/-1, but I'm also not usually trying for heavy HDR.

    Preseving laptop battery

Damage to the battery's Li-Ion cells occurs at the ends of the spectrum. If you over charge or undercharge them you can damage the cells. All modern devices have charge controllers to prevent that from happening. Still limiting the max charge will prolong the life of the cells in the battery...

I know for sure that ddrueding would have HDR'd the first shot. They look good except for the 3rd one which looks underexposed.

    Preseving laptop battery

You want to avoid complete cycles on Li-Ion batteries. It's worse to let it get to 0% and then recharge it than to recharge it at 50%. Practically speaking Li-Ion batteries should be charged as often as possible. Some new computers have a "battery saver" option to stop charging them at 80%...

Considering most of the people here have you on ignore it's probably best not to agitate one of the few who doesn't unless you're hoping for no one to read your posts. ;) Just because my post was short and to the point doesn't meant I didn't spend any time on it. SSDs - State of the Product?

Your CPU usage should be about 5-10% when playing a DVD if it's using the hardware acceleration of your video card.

    Netbook for the wife

Installs and updates are horrible. Other than that it's not so bad. Still some times it gets slow at the oddest times for no apparent reason. It's all irrelevant now, as I have given up on it and have a 320GB 2.5" IDE drive on the way to replace it.

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

It would for high resolution gaming where you've got anti aliasing cranked and anisotropic filtering juiced.
  34. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

That was on the box, or is that from a software measurement? If correct Sparkle totally screwed their buyers on the memory BW. A normal 9600GT has ~57GB/sec. That one only has 25.6GB/sec.
  35. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

On the 2GB 9600GT. You could use RivaTuner, nTune, or nVidia System Tools.

    Netbook for the wife

Well, my 2GB DDR stick arrived and seems to be working fine in my N120.
  44. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

Yes, but DDR2 if run at 800MHz would have the same BW as DDR3 @ 800Mhz.
  45. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

I'm just going by the specs. It says it has 800MHz memory. The other 9600GT's have >51.2GB/sec of memory BW (they run DDR3 @900MHz). Your argument apparently is that they're lying it's really 400Mhz and they made a 9600GT that has less than 1/2 the memory BW of other 9600GT's. Right...
  46. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

Please explain to me why it has half the BW? What's different between DDR2 and DDR3?
  47. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

Are you sure about that? There are several video card makers who claim to be using it. Asus
  48. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

No it's not. The card has an 800MHz memory clock (not effective speed).
  49. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

You really just don't get this do you? DDR, DDR2, DDR3, GDDR2, GDDR3, & GDDR4 all at 800MHz will all have the same max theoretical bandwidth. They all send out data twice per clock. GDDR5 sends out data 4 times per clock. 256bit DDR2 @ 800Mhz is the same speed as 128-bit GDDR5 @ 800MHz.
  50. S

How do I turn this system into a HTPC?

    Nope... ;)
