So I put a SSD in my HTPC that runs XP (32-bit), and I would prefer to keep the pagefile off the SSD. From what I've read online in XP it's not actually possible to completely turn off the pagefile, so that basically leaves me with the idea of creating a RAMdisk and putting the pagefile on it...

Am I the only one who finds SF slow? It seems like no matter from where or when I get on the site it's very frequently quite sluggish to respond. Today seems even worse than normal. As an example of what I'm talking about it can take anywhere from 5 to 10's of seconds after I click a link...

Me? I'm talking about USB 2.0 flash drives. The things you put in your pocket and carry files on. Most of the newer high capacity drives are very slow with small files. These Buffalo USB drives aren't.

What exactly is WHS? I read the Wikipedia entry on it and the MS Page, but I still don't really know what it is. Is it a full blown OS that you can install any program to, or is it solely for the tasks they advertise? The reason I ask is because my server in the basement runs Windows XP Pro...

Dell is now taking orders for the Mini 10 with the 1366x768 screen, so maybe we'll see some more movement in that direction. Of course the Mini 10 has the GMA500 graphics chipset that's apparently pretty anemic when compared to the already less than impressive GMA950 found in the 945G...

I expect it will end up thinner due to it's slightly larger size, but that remains to be seen.

As of last year GM's pension was fully funded. It's not now primarily due to their use of it to pay for early retirement incentives and some of the union programs. However, once GM goes bankrupt all that pension money goes into the "general fund", the employees get screwed, and the Feds pick...

Obviously the issue is that they aren't profitable. The current D3 leadership isn't the main reason for that. Their legacy costs from their retirees is the key problem. My Dad is a GM retiree. I have limited sympathy for GM. Obviously they can't afford to keep paying over 1 million people...

I have an OCZ Vertex in my HTPC. The SSD I don't like is a PATA SSD. And there aren't many options for those. I think I will put the original spinning HD back in the system.

They should have just declared bankruptcy in the beginning instead of taking bailout money. Now they're going to end up declaring bankruptcy anyway and be stuck being a puppet of the Federal gov't.

Ok, I take back everything nice I said about this drive. It's an utter and complete pile of crap way slower than any spinning HD. It loads applications fast, but don't try to install anything to it. I will be ordering a new spinning disc to replace it.

GM is now Government Motors. And rest assured the gov't will ruin the company because their Automotive Task Force doesn't have a single person on it with any automotive experience and they'll use GM to try out their crazy ideas for what cars should be (that no one wants).

Aren't there brightness, contrast, gamma, etc sliders in the control panel? It sounds like the gamma one is not at the default position.

I prefer Tomato over DD-WRT, and I had problems boosting the power previously. My router got rather flaky until I set the power back to the default.

Ok, so I did my FLAC to mp3 test today and it is quite a bit faster. The Core Duo T2400 converted in the ~23x range (using Foobar). The Core 2 Duo T7400 does it in the ~42x range. For reference my Pentium 4 3.06HT did it around 18x, and my Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0gHz does it at ~120x...

That's certainly not what happened in my test. It was completely usable. The only thing I' did was the partition alignment thing referenced on the OCZ forum before copying the old drive to the new one. I could be CPU limited though. This thing only has a Pentium-M 1.7gHz in it. Win XP SP2...
