SSDs - State of the Product?

When will it be safe to buy the new SandyForce-based drives? Prices are quite reasonable. I had a few in the Cart momentarily but then I rebooted.

    East Tenessee storms

Wow, that is a horror. The estimate is that there are hundreds of dead bodies. Insurance claims must be massive. How many hurricanes were there?

    question P771

 I mean watts, i.e., 17W is the TDP or whatever they call it nowadays. I'm assuming that the performance on battery may be less than maximum to conserve power. I almost always use the mains power though.

    question P771

I only have the one old hexagonal core i7 in the desktop. It's not the Sandy Core though. The notebooks I have now take about 35-40 sec. to convert one old-school 21MP RAW file. The future is coming soon and I would not be able to handle it.

Sorry to here that, but I know many businesses that failed in the first year or so from being under financed. :(

    question P771

I would hope the 2.6GhZ and newfangled Sandy Core is worth twice the speed. I'm not sure if it runs at 2.6 continuously when plugged in, but it should be possible for even a small notebook to handle a 17KW CPU.

    question P771

I'm starting to be annoyed with my old pair of sub-notebooks and the 2-generations on replacement P771 is a question mark. Of course I would be losing one of the two hard drives, but gaining a lot more in CPU compared to the sluggish Intel L7100. In the past there was a very nice forum on the...

That is what I keep thinking, but how long to wait? By the time the technology is great I'll be long gone.

    Recommendations on USB memory sticks?

All the USB 2.0 SDHC readers I have are also limited to about 20 MB/sec. even with the 45 MB/sec. SDHC cards. It must be the controllers. :( It's mostly a curiousity though since I only use the SDHC as the occasional second (mirror) card.

    problem Hitachi Drive Quality...

Are those the newer generation drives? Just about the oldest drives I have are the 2009 model 400GB x 5 platter Hibachis. Two of them have been running almost continuously since. It think they were better with lower density platters.

That depends on who the user is. If there are data files and the client pays, then they should be retrieved if possible. The OS is probably hosed.

Are there any Issues with Lenovo B560?

The question is whether the user has a desktop PC at home. Some students have only the one notebook for everything and need some decent processing and other capabilities that netbooks just cannot provide.

    Why must TV forsake me?

Huh? I know you were too young, but that is even how it was promoted for TV. They took the old Canadian cowboy from Bonanza or whatever it was and a couple of young guys for the fighter pilots. It was supposed to be like Star Wars, but better. However, after the pilot it became increasingly...

Say what? What does the Battlestart Galactica have to do with Star Trek? It was a rip off of Star Wars.
