It is definitely rough on cars. I've had to replace the oil pan due to it rusting through (and dripping) and an oil cooler line that was rusted through (and seeping).

It has ~134750 miles on it. My buddy has a 2003 with almost 2x the miles and he hasn't had any wheel bearing problems. I've got another wonderful problem that needs to be fixed too. The butterfly valve in the throttle body was all gunked up from 8.5 years or driving and that gunk gradually...

So I noticed some vibration in my Maxima at certain speeds lately, and when I changed to my winter wheels/tires yesterday I noticed a ton of slop in the front passenger side. So this morning I dropped it off at a local shop. They called and told me it was a bad wheel bearing and would $440 to...

You would need 100 PCIe 2.0 lanes to move data that fast, so what exactly and how are they measuring?

SSDs - State of the Product?

So I bought two used Intel 2.5" 80GB G2 drives to put in my primary server in RAID-1 as the OS drives from the FS section of another forum. We'll see how prudent of a decision this turns out to be. Now to buy 16 gig of RAM (4 x 4GB DDR-800) for the server. :cyclopsani:

I love their blind listening test. ;) Talk about a totally flawed experiment. They needed to have their panel pass an ABX (a true blind listening test) first. If someone can't consistently tell whether "X" is "A" or "B" to a meaningful statistical confidence level paying any attention to what...

Anyone have a suggestion on a new washing machine?

I don't think you can expect appliances to last 30 years like they used to. Further complicating matters the higher end appliances may be less reliable due to touch screens, fancier electronics, and the like. All that said, three years ago when we bought our house we ended up buying fairly...

So this kit looks like the cheapest 2x4GB DDR2-800 kit out there right now at $167.49. This kit seems to be the cheapest 1.8V 2x4GB DDR2-800 5-5-5-18 kit at $182.99 (and one of the only). Still, I don't think now is the right time to buy since prices will probably keep falling. :bomb:

So, I've noticed that DDR2 and DDR3 has finally starting to drop in price in the past few weeks. It's still not quite as cheap as it was 18-24 months ago, but it's getting close. And it's about time! I've got a PC just waiting to get another 4GB of DDR2-800 (my server), but the matching...

Best hardware solution for RAIDless storage (20+ drives)

Not necessarily. There's a variety of things at play here. 1) It is impossible to use a MBR to address more than 2^32 512 byte blocks. This works out to a limitation of 2TB (not 2TiB). This is because the MBR can only support a 32bit LBA. 2) All SATA drives, even the advanced format ones...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Looks like a nice incremental performance increase, but I have to say I just don't seem myself running out to replace any of my SSDs (Intel 80GB G1, Intel 80GB G2, OCZ Vertex 30GB). Sure the new ones are faster, but they're not likely to be much faster in my real world use, at least not to a...

    Blu-ray Disc Hardware

Oh, I didn't attempt to patch my GGC-H20L. The 10x CH10LS20 seems like a ripping monster once you remove the lock. I missed out on the $49.99 sale Newegg had on it, but Microcenter has 'em for $59.99.
  36. S

    Blu-ray Disc Hardware

Mine is definitely faster on Blu-Rays though I've only ripped one disc so far after patching it and it got up to 7.4x and was climbing before my server decided it needed to slow down the data transfer for some reason. I haven't tried ripping a DVD in it yet.

Sorry, but I'm still not seeing it. First, the legal system isn't overrun with rich people. It's overrun with criminals who tend to be not rich. And to your last point, rich people pay dearly on their property taxes for their large lots in their low-density neighborhoods.

Lets not forget about educations costs... Blu-ray Disc Hardware

Apparently the drive is riplocked. I just picked up a 10x LG CH10LS20 tonight. It didn't rip any faster than my LG GGC-H20L. Did a little research and found out the drive is riplocked. Ripped the firmware from the drive, patched it to remove the riplock, and flash the patched firmware back...

No I don't. If anything I'd argue it's reversed. The low income earner makes more use of public services via assistance programs like welfare, food stamps, etc.

So, using that logic I guess the whole point of the US tax code is to serve as a deterrent to making income, not revenue generation. Since after all, the more you make, the more you're punished for doing so.
  45. S

    Police Pursuit

    1) Well, that would be a truly "fair tax" and I'd support it. Everyone gets the basically same benefit from the gov't so why should some people pay vastly more money for those benefits than others? 2) Please... Points are a joke. Most states will wave the points if you simply ask them to...
