The situation probably isn't that dire with power sharing in that receiver. You're not going to get 100W x 7 all channels driven, but it's 200W/x per channel either. Still, your idea to get a receiver with preouts is a good idea. Then if you want an amplifier down the road you can add one...

I'm not sure what that HSF is all about. Anand's article indicated they used this setup for 4.4gHz.

You'll probably see the introduction of the new models at CES with availability to be a few days later once the sales pipeline gets full. There have been reports on Engadget of them being available for sale here and there around the world already though.

So, the secrecy is over. I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Desktop Mobile Needless to say I'm very interested to see a dual core Sandy Bridge in a Lenovo T410 notebook. :twistd:

I had a very nice Sony ES receiver that worked just fine too, but I got over it and bought a HDMI equipped Pioneer Elite anyhow, which in turn got replaced by another HDMI equipped Pioneer Elite.

I've got 'em and they work fine for me. I'd suggest you get cables a few feet longer than you need. Then if you move things around you don't suddenly find yourself with cables too short. Also, if you're measuring with a tape measure you'll have a tendency to underestimate the amount of cable...

Yeah, that is what's needed to safely drive 4 ohm speakers with a modern receiver. Actually, the trick is to leave the switch to 8 ohms and use the speakers. If the receiver shuts down due to excessive current or thermal shutdown, you flip the switch and that problem should go away but it'll...

Unless you have really long runs (like >50'), you don't need 10ga wire. This + this should cover you. You don't have to solder them either. The wire will go through the back, and fold it over the screw end slightly and tighten it down. Instructions (PDF)

    Stable RAID5 on ICH10R with 3x Samsung F4 2TB HD204UI's any1?

I think you'll be fine just leaving the CCTL settings alone. There isn't anything you can do about the 4k sectors, so no point worrying about it.
  14. S

    Audio Equipment

That setting reduces the rail voltage of the amplifiers which in turn reduces the power (and current) the speaker can get which taxes the amplifier less.

Probably is aside from perhaps trying to boot from a USB flash drive.
  16. S

    Audio Equipment

Well, the amplifiers generally get better (more robust) as you move up the line. Specifically that they can output more power at the same time due to a larger power supply. But, if you're not listening loudly or not a demanding listener, spending more to go higher end may not be money well spent.

    Stable RAID5 on ICH10R with 3x Samsung F4 2TB HD204UI's any1?

The Samsung drives should be fine. I've been using their 5400RPM EcoGreen consumer drives (1.5TB) in RAID-6 arrays on SAS RAID cards for ever 1 year without any issue. I don't see why the Intel ICHxR would be any different. I've used Seagate drives in RAID-1 on an ICH9R with no issues. Heck...

Rumor - 4TB hard drive from Hitachi

I took the position that if the jump from 2TB to 3TB has caught them with their pants down (for no good reason) we shouldn't expect the jump from 3TB to 4TB to be any different. This isn't the old 128GB limit (LBA-28bit) where there was something that had to be overcome with a standards revision.
  22. S

Rumor - 4TB hard drive from Hitachi

Uh... 3TB does not exceed the capacity of LBA. 48bit LBA was adopted in 2003 and supports up to 128PiB. So what? GPT has been around for a while as have drive larger than 2TB (via RAID arrays). XP x64 supports GPT just fine, though it can't boot from a GPT drive assuming the system had EFI...
