    question Larger TVs

    I don't think most blu-ray players are intended to stand on edge (assuming that's what your cryptic comment is about).

    Ugh... I like graphs, not some craptacular spreadsheet of data.

    Sandy Bridge

    No, I figured it out though. :idea: You have to change EIST and all those power saving things to enabled instead of Auto. Apparently it assumes that if you're running 1600MHz memory you don't want them enabled so there Auto = off. With 1333MHz memory Auto = on. :bstd:

    ThrottleStop is definitely something to look at if you're using a Sandy Bridge CPU. You can see how / if your CPU is being throttled under load and control it.

    Windows Home Server / Home Server OS

    It takes 30 * 5.5 minutes to complete a run. So 2 hours 45 minutes.

    IOmeter takes as long or short as you set it up to run.

    Yeah, except SMB 1.0 will never let you get that high.

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

    I posted this in the other Sandy Bridge thread, but it really belongs here... I found a nice bug in my Gigabyte motherboard. Running the RAM at 1600MHz (it's rated speed) instead of 1333MHz prevents the CPU from dynamically changing it's clock speed as the load on it changes. The the RAM at...

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

    Well, I just reserved a Lian Li PC-A77F (in black) to put my Sandy Bridge Build in. Microcenter has them in store for $147.95. (many stores are already out of stock) I did the online reservation for in store pickup thing. We'll see if I actually get it tomorrow when I stop by on the way...

    WTB: 256MB or 512MB PC133 SO-DIMM

    Thanks for looking. If you don't find one, I will probably buy one from ebay. Looks like $20 will land a 512MB PC133 SODIMM.

    We got it pretty good last night also. I'm working from home today. I have yet to go out to shovel.

    Sandy Bridge

    I found a nice bug in my Gigabyte motherboard. Running the RAM at 1600MHz (it's rated speed) instead of 1333MHz prevents the CPU from dynamically changing it's clock speed as the load on it changes. The the RAM at 1333MHz the core will dynamically drop the CPU multiplier down slowing the CPU...

    question Larger TVs

    They'll probably have similar image quality playing blu-ray movies, so buy a brand you're comfortable with that has the features you want.

    question Larger TVs

    On a LCD, yes. Ones in airports that show gate change information (yes I'm sure they were LCDs, not plasmas). We had a 15" LCD Dell monitor at a previous job that had the log in screen burned in on it.

    question Larger TVs

    You could get image retention if you were to leave 4:3 content up there 24/7. However, the TV probably has a stretch mode which would get rid of the bars.

    Don't you need to already have an extended partition to put a logical drive in it? Since you don't have an existing extended partition, you can't put a logical drive in it.

    Sort of. The Z68 chipset will allow overclocking + use of the integrated graphics. Currently it's an either or.

    problem Computer crash when processing large amounts of data

    Instead of installing Linux, you could use a Linux LiveCD / LiveUSB (like Ubuntu 10.10). You don't have to install anything since it boots from the CD / USB drive. Then, start several data copies going and see what happens.

    I don't think it cares. I think it will work in a 1x electrical slot (assuming it fits in the slot mechanically).

    So, apparently Intel screwed the pooch and there's going to be a recall on the Intel 6 Series chipset. This ought to be interesting. :cry: I know I'm looking forward to RMA'ing my motherboard, waiting, and getting back a refurbished replacement with electrical gremlins caused by the BGA...

    Costco. Duracell's are reasonable there. Keep in mind you won't get a 2 pack thought. You'll get like 8 9V's for 10.99 or something like that.

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

    I struggled to understand the who Vcore situation at first. In my P67A-UD3P, the default Vcore setting is "Auto" which apparently means the motherboard will change the Vcore as the processor's loading changes dynamically through the Vid voltage range set / specified in the processor. You can...

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

    Nice... I'm struggling with some gremlins. I can stress test mine for hours, have it pass without issue. Then reboot, do the same stress test and have it blue screen in minutes. So, for the moment I backed it down a little. What all have you tweaked / changed to hit 48 x 100?

    My Sandy Bridge Experience (Q6000 -> i7-2600K)

    FWIW, I also don't think the 3.4gHz numbers are really at 3.4gHz. I think it's really 3.5gHz since that's the default Turbo behavior of the Core i7-2600K for 4 loaded cores.
