    problem Dying Computer

Thanks. The ram was DDR XMS3 1600 Corsair. 6x4GB was pricey back then. If it will at least run OK I can consider other RAM later. Microcenter is less than 50 miles. Is there any particular motherboard you'd recommend around $150?

I can't seem to find any boards other than for servers. Perhaps I can reuse 16GB of the RaM in a z97 board. It's a shame to throw out the 980x.

    problem Dying Computer

I tried three groups of two different RAM modules with no luck. I reset the BISO to default parameters as well with no luck. It frequently freezes, BSODs, sometimes hard drives are missing at BIOS boot, etc. Other times it boots, then reboots several times before completely powering off...

    problem Dying Computer

Now it is rebooting, but continues to crash. It could be bad RAM, but even with only two stcks it still craps out. I was already planning to build a new system, but now perhaps I need two as this dead one was going to be the second system. What CPU would be good for the second system, the 4790K?

It played the same song all night and was fine in the morning. Then I rebooted a couple times and the display was black again. I bought some cheapo single-slot video card for $48. It's OK so far, but installs software. WTF is the GFExperience?

Thanks. It looks like the D14 works with most RAM, including the Crucial.

Is MSI OK nowadays? I like the fact that one can have 10 USB 3.0 ports. I'm thinking of using a 512GB XP941 in the M.2 if it can boot.

Does it clear the RAM modules? I'm think of getting 4x8GB to start and if that works, I'd add four more. How well does your 5930K OC with that HSF?

    problem Dying Computer

No, I don't really have any other cards to use. The monitor is dying, but that is not the issue. It works well enough with the other computers. The audio test is a good idea. I'll try it over the next day.

The D750 is what the D610 should have been if the D600 disaster had not occurred. It's very capable for the money and has excellent IQ, but has has obvious performance limitations.

Arrrgh! My main system appers to be crapping out. Half of the time the video will not engage and the screen is gone. I removed the video and reinserted it. but now it blacked out again. It has also locked up a couple for times for no reason. Is it possibly the card or more likely the...

I have those 64GB drives as well. They are quite fast depending on the host. :) I'm getting 194 MB/sec. reads and 176 MB/sec. writes. on a laptop according to the Crystal. The device enforces write caching.

The D610 should be better, but there is not a tremendous difference. The Canon 16-35/4 IS is the one to get in that range. The IQ is better t5ahn anty either of the 16-35/2.8 lenses (or 17-40) and I have three. Look at The Digital Picture, Lenstip, Cameralabs, Photodo and perahops Lensrental...

    4k TVs and Monitors

Do the monitors achieve 4K with a KVM? I'm thinking of buying two new displays, a normal resolution 24" display for working on and a 4k unit for displaying the images instead of printing them. I've reached the conclusion that working on a 4K monitor will not be feasible due to the size of...

Lately Canon has really been filling in their lens lineup at the high end. Nikon used to be known for the good mid-range glass. question WD60EZRX or Others?

Is there any alternative to the WD60EZRX in a 6TB slow/cool drive for around $300? The Seagate 6TB becomes too hot to use without cooling, and the Hitachi NAS 7200 RPM drive is marginal for heat. Thanks.

The short answer is that the lenses are really different enough in FL and aperture that they are not directly comparable. The 70-200/2.8 IS is a fine lens, but I have not had one in some years, so I cannot directly compare it. At equal apertures they are probably similar. I have been using...
