I never sell anything anymore. It just piles up and the ancestors will may have to deal with them after I'm gone. The 400/5.6 is over 20 years old and does not contain any fluorite elements. It was one of the first unleaded Canon tele lens designs produced and therefore is allowed to continue...

I have a late version 400/5.6 moldering away in the closet somewhere. I used it a couple times in 2007, but that's all. It has been a favorite handheld lens of wildlife photographers for a couple of decades due to the light weight, fast AF and good IQ. The 400/5.6 is rather pointless now IMO...

    Cheap Power Supply

Yeah. I've been the victim of exploding caps on multiple occasions. Once on the head and once the ceilings. There are not many fine PS options other than bulky or heavy stuff or do it yourself. Is there an online source for decent wall warts that you use?

    Cheap Power Supply

I have a device that uses one of the ubiquitous Chinese wall warts. Unfortunately it becomes quite hot in use in the US, so you can imagine I'm a bit concerned how it will perform in the desert with no A/C and at 240V. :( Are such cheap supplies more likely to fail at 240V than 120V? On the...

The angle of view is approximately equivalent to a 1280mm lens on FX, but that's not the same thing, and often not a good thing. With an FX lens you are throwing out ~56% of the image by using a DX sensor or 61% by using Canon EF-S.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I was about to write normal, but I knew that would not fly. :D In hindsight, I should have asked when it would be available to consumers. According to the Amazon a store has it listed for May 3, 2015.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I suppose some people do that with the Thunderbowls or internal RIAD, but it is useful for me to have a couple TB of fast storage for a work in progress. Even 1TB is not enough for a large project. Once the work is substantially finished, then it can be moved to normal hard drives. I haven't...

I don't know why you insist on putting cheesy UV filters in front of the lens. Are they even fully multicoated? Digital sensors are much more sensitive to reflections than film ever was and there are built in UV/IR filters. You are not using Ektachrome any more.

I pulled some of the 5TB drives from the enclosures. According to the HDTune they are 5900RPM. The large files (4GB) sustained writes are fine, though the small and medium-sized files are not so good. It slows down near the end of the drive in any case, but that may be the low RPM.

I was busy ordering a few 5Ds/R bodies :D If you shoot RAW+jpg then the buffer will take a hit, so you'd better use a decent card then. Normally I suggest a good Hoya multicoated polarizer or perhaps a Marumi. The B+W Kaesemann nano coated are good but expensive.

$75 for 64GB is not exactly a major expense unless you need to buy a large number. That's about $0.035 per 24MP RAW image. 15-20 years ago film was 10x the price and of course single use. It wasn't all that long ago when a 2GB CF card was $600. I typically use the 32GB cards in similar...
