I'm not so sure about that. I believe they're mSATA drives. They skipped the standard 2.5" drive due to size constraints.

question Is an Intel E8400 CPU compatible with an Intel D946GZIS MB?

Isn't the multiplier locked though? It may not have the necessary FSB:RAM ratios to support it.

    TR's SSD endurance test

Well, the SSD with 3-bit per cell flash is the first one to have a meltdown in the TR SSD endurance test. Average users probably haven't gotten to that point yet.

    TR's SSD endurance test

Perhaps I should clarify. My beef is flash with 3 bits per cell flash. Trying to keep 8 distinct voltage levels in a flash cell is a disaster waiting to happen.

This is the thread for the discussion of interesting apps.

I'd like to reiterate my dissatisfaction with the Android version of Firefox. It's "interesting" but in all the wrong ways. It's a little bit better than it was when I first installed it since they've updated it twice, but it's still pretty terrible. Yes, it supports plugins like Adblock Plus...

    TR's SSD endurance test

It definitely has less endurance and certainly will have worse retention as well.

Supposedly yes when using the on-chip Intel graphics. Unfortunately, I couldn't find many CPU based benchmarks on Haswell comparing single and dual channel memory.

Haswell Laptops 14" and smaller with at least FHD screens

When it has 4GB soldered on the main board, and only has 1 SODIMM slot, I'd say it is accurate. The chipset doesn't support larger DIMMs. I'm also unsure what happens to dual channel operation with 12GB.

FWIW, I wasn't the one with a price cap of $1k. I have no set budget, but I need to feel I'm getting something for my money, not like I'm being fleeced.

Haswell Laptops 14" and smaller with at least FHD screens

So the Lenovo T440s is in their black Friday promotion for 18% off which basically makes it the same price as the pretty much equivalent HP EliteBook 840 G1 config I was looking at. The custom built T440s ends up at about $1250 with no SSD and 4GB of RAM. I would add a SSD myself and a 4GB...

I have one I picked up several years ago. You can get more sophisticated models now for under $100 now. I have an Actron model. I'd suggest going to Amazon.com searching for OBD ii scanner and finding a well rated model in your target price range.

I don't like it when people call me either. I prefer e-mail. I've been pretty successful at conditioning the people at the accounts I call on to e-mail me technical questions instead of calling. It helps that they're usually far to complicated to describe over the phone and require sending c...

My example meant like cable TV, as in do they call the cable company or e-mail them? As to filtering out the really clueless ones... If you're target market is the technically illiterate rich, wouldn't the most illiterate ones be the ones most willing to pay though?
  31. S

    Something Random

Okay, I'll bite... You give them to the technologically illiterate with deep pockets, but only include an e-mail? Are you sure that's really their preferred method of contact? Do you think when their cable goes out that they sent an e-mail, or perhaps pick up the phone and call?

    Windows 8.1

This matches what I found in my subsequent Googling after I posted. Unlike Windows 7 which use the same OEM key on every (or nearly every) machine from a given OEM, each Windows 8 machine has a unique key stored in the BIOS, and there is no sticker with a code stuck to the machine. OEM install...

Haswell Laptops 14" and smaller with at least FHD screens

Yeah, but before it was finally put up for sale there were 4 CPU choices, Nvidia graphics or not, and two screens. They rolled out only the lowest and worst possible config. And, they removed all the information about the other possible components.

Haswell Laptops 14" and smaller with at least FHD screens

Well, Lenovo pulled one from their giant bag of FAIL! with the U430p today. A stripped config that you can't even upgrade the warranty on... for $800. No other configurations are available. :cursin:

    Windows 8.1

As it ships you can't connect to a system running Windows 7 Home Premium using remote desktop. However, some people figured out how to re-enable that with a patcher that modifies a few of the windows system files. I'm guessing that Windows 8 / 8.1 have the same limitation for the non Pro...

I got my two today. They're not as ridiculously bright as the BTU shocker, but they induce a big smile when turned on. The Nichia 219 powered MX25L3C has the nicest tint, just like the P60 drop-in I have with the same 219 4500k high CRI LED. The MT-G2 powered MX25L3 has a nice tint too. It's...

Haswell Laptops 14" and smaller with at least FHD screens

It seems the U430p has a 1920x1080 screen that's matte. Now if Lenovo would only release it in the US I could at least find out how much they want for it or if it can be configured to a proper setup.
