I want to buy a new car

I drove full-sized 2-door cars for over 25 years, but then the category died out in the late 90s with the SUV craze. I'd hated 4-doors for not being able to easily put my bag in the back set, but got used to it rather easily.

It looks like 2015 was a new version. A new Outback would not be cheap unless you get a base model, but is a good long term choice. How do you feel about a CVT or do you care? You should probably get the Eyesight option. ;)

The last year of Element production was 2011. Perhaps it is possible to find a used one without too many miles if you really like that model. FWIW, I had a SOUL cubic thingie rental once. The vehicle seemed rather small and had a weak, noisy engine.

That's terrible. I hope your insurance is not too awful. I have no idea why the window was open while driving, but you do seem to have some bizarre incidents. :( The newer CUVs are shorter and lower to the ground for maximizing fuel economy. Most of them are like station wagons now.

That bottle is too large to fit on a commercial aircraft. The amount of time spent working on that soylent crap is probably more than all the time he would save preparing food for a hundred years, not to mention that food can taste good. OK, I read it. Some people like to live like that, but I don't want to live as in a space capsule or a habitat on Mars. I want A/C and power for my computers, etc. :) Has anyone done studies on the long term use of only that drink he espouses? It seems vile.

    Intel Skylake reviews (i7-6700K)

No thanks, I spent a few thousand already on new systems this year and the 6 cores are not all that great, especially considering that the software keeps getting more boated and slower very year. It's a downward spiral unless there are major CPU performance gains.

I want to buy a new car

In general I'm cautious about any new technology with unknown reliability and longevity. I did not see any lasers listed as headlight options in the cars I was looking at. They do seem to use lasers for the collision systems. I thought lasers tended to product collimated light, whereas normal...

100-400 II IQ with a 1.4X is acceptable, though not great, and only allows AF at the center point. Of course I can get about the same IQ from the 200-400 with a 2X on a 1DX compared to 100-400 + 1.4x on a 70D/7D II, but there is no net reach gain. For most people a DX body with an...

Are you planning to get a 70-200/4 or f/2.8? It is better than the 80-400 in that range, but the 80-400 is quite good. If you are not planning to buy two lenses (70-200 and 200-500), then get the 80-400. It is for sure very versatile and I do like using it. The 200-500 will be of more...

A 100-400 II would be a backup/second lens. I'm trying to decide what system to put together for this year's Africa. The challenges are more or less in the wider lenses and with the cameras. 400mm+1.4x would be the shortest long lens I've used since 2003, so the cameras have to make up for...

A 100-400 II is fine for whales and less of a loss risk of flying overboard. Elephants could be done use any lens from a wide to a long tele, depending on the distance. Ellies and giraffes are good subjects for a 70-200 to cover a range as they are moving towards the camera.

I use the 24 TSE II. The f/1.4 or faster wide to normal primes are mainly for available light work, such as by PJs. The f/1.8s (other than a cheesy 50) are for the consumer middle market, such as D750 users.

I can understand going electric for the principle. :) I was doing the math for a relative driving ~12K and it would take about 5-7 years of hybrid driving to break even on TCO. The visibility is shit as are many of the controls. It's like you need a copilot to manage the iPad in the console. Of course there are mechanical improvements over the years. I feel there should be a front camera with some of these cars since the bumpers are vestigial.
