    Cars, Trailers, and Towing...

OK, so everyone I've talked to says that this car will be great for towing, just get a trans cooler. Well, Subaru doesn't offer one. Does anyone have a suggestion? Any idea what an aftermarket one will do to the warranty?

    Cars, Trailers, and Towing...

Here's something I don't know much about. (again) My GF recently totalled her work vehicle (a 1994 Ford Windstar). It was modified to hold all her work gear and had uprated suspension and transmission to handle the additional weight. Unfortunatly, she'd never had the brakes uprated, so now it's...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

This has been true for me in the new LOTR: BFME II. You can now create your own Hero unit and use it in the RTS game. It really is a lot of fun. I remember spending hours developing characters in Neverwinter Nights, and still create characters for friends in DDO.

CD emulation software conflict with Call of Duty game.

There is a nifty trick to make SecuROM not detect Daemon Tools. Do a search of their forums, it involves changing the permissions on some files and registry keys. It does work.

That's quite an exciting drive as well. Not as fast, but just as quiet, and with low power consumption as well.

    Smoothwall Hardware

Heat and space are big issues for this type of thing. It will be replacing a Linksys (or similar) router and I've told them it is "better" and it 14x the cost. So it needs to look really shiny. OK, OK, I give up! I just looked at my most complex smoothie build (T-1, 200+ local users, 5 VPN...

    Smoothwall Hardware

For the first client it will be just a simple point to point VPN. I know if I'm goinng to be using proxy or caching services I'll need to use an actual HDD, but a 40GB 2.5" HDD would only be a few dollars more. I'd just rather avoid any moving parts and keep heat/power to a minimum.

    Smoothwall Hardware

Guys? Did you notice that 512MB of RAM is $35? 256MB is about $25. What is the point of saving $10 and getting half the RAM? I am going to be building quite a few of these. I like smoothwall and have been deplying it at a number of my locations. I imagine I'll have an initial order of 10...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

I'm interested, some of my friends at the game center are already working on their second level-10. On another note, I spent an entire night the other day playing the new Lord of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II. It's very fun, much better than the first, and quite beautiful.

I hate myself for asking but...

Yup, this is worth dropping a client over. In a letter to the owner, I would point out that you would require that business communications be made using a technology that provides a record of those communications. Trying to track a paper trail through saved IMs sounds like absolute hell.

    what color is this?

When sensative people ask me questions about color I begin with my Crayola disclaimer. It all depends on how many colors you're working with. In the 8-color box, it is certainly purple. In the 48-64-color box, it is likely indgo. But I bet the 96-color box uses a more elegant description...

    Recommendation wanted, HDD cooler

I agree with Sol on this one. Fans small enough to fit in a single-drive enclosure will not work well, will be noisy and will fail quickly. One option is to get a multi-drive enclosure that is larger (and consequently has a larger fan). The other option is more of a home-brew; Use a Zalman...
