Thanks. I was having major audio sync issues when using ripit4me and AutoGK. Just DVDDecryptor was working fine, but something in the change broke it. Nero Recode knocked out a file that works just fine.

    My new system

That is the cheapest soltion to the immediate problem, but not the coolest or most flexible. Based on the existing system spec (looks great, BTW) the cost is not particularly relevant. Let me know what you end up getting, looks very cool. What HDDs are you using in that array?

WAY too early. My GF works 3 days a week (M,W,F) and gets up at 7AM on those days. I'm practicing getting up with her. Of course, on Su,T,TH,S we sleep in till noon.

Very pleased with myself. I happen to be in posession of a spare Opteron 185 that I'll be dropping in my primary home rig. No reason to upgrade from my existing 4200+, but it's there...tempting me ;)

My thoughts exactly; but this does allows for quick and dirty prototypes that can then be sent out for casting/milling of the final.

Very neat. I've been looking for such things for some time now. The best I could find 6-months ago was $6k, used.

    Best 20" LCD display

If you are doing casual video editing, any monitor will do. If you are doing professional video editing, and want to be able to see every pixel perfectly, and all at once, then you need one of those monitors.

Making an XP Pro Corporate Install Legit

I would assume that the partucular VLK he has won't pass genuine BS. When you buy a licence through the genuine advantage link, all they do is send you a program that changes the key and a new key. I don't know how else to get this program, but it worked fine with another retail key I had lying...

Your network stack is hosed or something else is blocking network traffic. If your ping command doesn't work, I would reccomend re-installing your TCP/IP stack.

    Hitachi 1 TB drive

I'll wait for the Seagate 4-platter design, TYVM. But yes, 1TB drives should be bought on principle. They are way cooler than even 950GB drives ;) Although my estimation of Hitachi is going up substantially, their model HV-250R is particularly nice.

    Interesting water cooling setup

Looks brilliant to me, and a professional looking installation as well. Considering how much energy we put into heating some things and cooling others, it's a nice thought to just be moving around the same heat instead.

Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

OK, let's get the ball rolling on a flouescent solution. Here is a sample gutter. 4.5" wide at the top, and about 3" deep. What should I get to put in there? If you could include links to tubes, ballasts, etc. that would be great. Don't worry about dimmers, this should provide enough light...

Indirect Lighting for the living room...$$$

Great info guys...thanks. WRT power consumption: In this apartment, utilities are included ;) further, we have the heater cycling on about 10% of the time anyway; and it's noisier than the light fixture. But if we were to move, than this would be of greater concern. So far I like 2 options...

Thanks for the lengthly response JTR: I was considering a stepped Flourescent solution, but one of the things that really appealed to me about the Xenon system I linked to is the very low profile. My new apartment has no in-ceiling lighting in the living and bedroom. That's great, as I hate the ugly fixtures usually stuck up there in apartments. $600 is not bad. That is cheaper than an iRAM of half it's capacity. Of course, it would be great if they would sell it for less ;) My recent domestic spree has siphoned all the money from my tech fund, but I suspect that this drive or something similar is in my near future.

Shipping by ship is very cheap; if you are willing to wait a month or so. If you spend $2-3k on a couch, a pretty small percentage of that will get it anywhere in the world...eventually.
