    YAPT - 400D and 20D compared

My incredibly limited experience has let me to believe I made the right decision with the 20D. The bigger body fits my hand much better, and the extra controls are supremely useful.

UAW: Out of Touch and Irrelevant

They just need to do what the farmers around here need to do; automate the process. If they can get a production line down to 100 skilled technicians, they can pay them whatever they want. The secret to higher wages is higher productivity per capita. The secret to that is automation. This used...

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

Down with the nanny-state! But while we are on the subject, I need a AA and AAA charger that I can leave the batteries on; so they are ready whenever I need them. Having to remember to put them on and then take them off is too much work. Capacity for 4 AA and 4 AAA would be ideal, the AA are...

LDAP is driving me nuts. Every time it adds or removes something it completely rebuilds the slapd config file based on info from my router somehow. The domain name keeps reverting to "dc=comcast,dc=ca, etc, etc", which of course breaks slapd so bad that it won't start. So I go in and rebuild it...

I'm looking at getting a second 7950GT for SLI when I get my new screen (Samsung 305T). But I'm hoping to keep my current monitor (Viewsonic VP2130b) as a secondary screen for work. Will SLI handle that? Further, I have my projector hooked up as well. I'm pretty sure that the two video cards...

    Great employers

Sorry, but sitting at a climate-controlled desk NEVER counts as horrid working conditions. There are better, but I would argue that a significant percentage of the population has worse (field workers, construction, hospitality, janitorial, mining, fishing, etc). No toxic chemicals, no risk of...

Where is the complaint? That people with little education and no motivation have crappy jobs? The guy working the drive-thru line at Burger King has about 12 seconds between orders. dSLR thread

My recent lens spree wasn't an attempt to cover up my lack of experience, I just want to be sure I have the equipment capable of capturing the shots I want. Not that I have the skill to capture the shots I want, but it would be a shame to be further burdened by inappropriate gear.

Should There be a Ban on Incandescent Lamps?

These are all indirect effects. The moment someone buys an incandescent bulb you do not suffer. Indirect effects need to be followed down the chain until the direct cause is identified (power consumption), and then methods can be applied towards that. Example? Add a fat tax on power producers...
