I'll see if I can get a picture of the intersection I have in mind (from one of my clients). Hwy 101 north of Prunedale, left turn across 2 oncoming lanes, uphill. Avg speed? ~65mph. Unfortunately, you only have a couple hundred yards of visibility. Even if there was a big enough hole in the...

4 seconds? No, but 9+ would make the wait for a sufficiently large hole in traffic much longer. Same with passing; the size of the gap in oncoming traffic is not determined by the capabilities of the driver.

Where I will be living soon, 40-70mph acceleration is very important. Lots of 2-lane roads that go on for many miles. Lots of farm equipment and other trucks driving ~45mph. Not to mention freeways with left-turn lanes and stop signs instead of on-ramps. Those make 0-60 times quite relevant.

Thinking on this further, perhaps they could just grade the quality of the language skills based on your support level. Platinum-Uber support: All techs have graduate degrees in English literature from Oxford. Super-Gold support: All techs have a working knowledge of English from old movies...

    Vostro: the "Business" Inspiron?

Does it tell you both things at the same time? Because they seem mutually exclusive to me. Either there is a legitimate problem with their customers not understanding their support staff, or there isn't a legitimate problem, and Americans are racist. Considering that #1 is an outright...

If it's going to be one printer for 12 workstations, I'd assume speed would be an issue. Is there an administrative console that the printer could be connected to? I'm not seeing many networkable photo printers that aren't HP or Lexmark.

Typically these things drop in price once they hit numbers that are just better than existing tech. As we discussed in the car thread, people aren't likely to buy something that offers less than they currently have in any category. So, for the laptop market, that means ~128GB and ~50MB/sec...

Suggest a decent 19" LCD monitor

I can't visualize a truly resolution-independent display technology. The only thing I can think of is a display where the resolution is high enough that useful resolutions divide more evenly a 6400x4800 display would do pretty well at all the more sane resolutions. Of course, this would be...

So long as you are working in multiples, everything is fine. I have run quite a few 1600x1200 22" screens at 800x600. I almost feel bad having the customer pay for so much and use so little. To be honest, most of my clients don't notice the blurriness of 1024x768 on a 19" 1280x1024 screen; if...

Just to touch on the "oil in roads" point, many here are built using concrete. Cheaper (reportedly) to build and maintain, but much worse on the vehicles. Again passing costs to the consumer.
