I wouldn't say LM throws money around. All the stuff he has seems to have been a wise purchase. He just spends more money on photography because that is his profession, just as I spend more money on computer stuff because that is my profession. Tannin, Handruin, and I have no such excuse...
That is exactly what I recommended, and honestly I don't have a second recommendation. These guys have never disappointed.
I know that Areca also makes hardware RAID cards. But I've never used them.
On that screen, it seemed* like the dot pitch was considerably worse. Could have to do with the viewing angle, it was my 3rd monitor and was considerably off to the right.
Not saying it was, just trying to describe my impressions.
I am very spoiled by 3Ware controllers. They are not cheap, and certainly overkill for a mirrored set. But they do work very well. This is their lowest-end card for $150
If you want SATAII, it will cost you another $50.
Udaman, I suppose I've just seen the wrong ones then. Those I've seen had virtually 0 difference between the DVD and HD-DVD version.
Merc, I haven't been looking in some time to be honest. I suppose I'll look again when more than 2-3 movies I want in HD aren't available in HD-DVD.
Awesome. Working code and I feel like I almost know it. I understand the basic concept behind every line of code, I just need to go read up on the syntax.
Thanks again.
I got the XBox360 HD-DVD ROM when HD-DVD was first being cracked. I'll get a BR ROM when those are cracked. I like HiDef, I hate DRM. When I can get one without the other I'll buy in. I do appreciate the improved quality on new releases, though releasing older films on "HighDef" is a joke.
The market is certainly there, and I suspect the tech is really darn close. I wonder what is holding it up? Volume production? Lack of competition? Large vendors sucking up the supply at higher cost?
I have a larger number (more than 100 less than 200) of these drives deployed, and I haven't had any fail yet. It could be a bad batch, but I would be more suspicious of a power supply or heat issue. How confident are you in your other components and configuration?
I'm having some issues (no kidding) with the makeTags function.
function makeTags($id)
{
// Lookup
$result = "SELECT tags FROM movies WHERE movies.index = '$id'";
$result = mysql_fetch_row($result);
// Tokenize
$tokens = explode(" ", $result);
// Loop through tokens
foreach($tokens as...
In order to have different links to different searches, I'll need to do the hyperlinks based on the tokenized results? I haven't felt this stupid in a long time.
Got #3 working the was I wanted by un-doing a bunch of Blake's work...sorry about that.
I almost have #1 working as I want; the location is in the hyperlink, but it still starts with the server's address (http://192.168.1.7/ z:\movies\animated\Cinderella.avi )
I understand the explanation...
What would I do without SF? Know a lot less and work a lot more ;) For years I haven't had any good friends living nearby, you guys have made me not even notice. Thanks.
Awesome. Thank you so much. The things left on my wish list are all HTML (I think) so I hope I can figure them out:
1. Hyperlink all the titles to launch the movie
2. Hyperlink all the tags to run a new search on that tag.
3. Display all records when no search or an empty search is run.
I just checked, and we are a few days short of 6 years since the first accounts were created. I'd like to thank everyone here for making it such a nice and easy place to be. And of course special thanks to Handruin for running the place!
Perfect. If I could search for "The Matrix" by just typing "matrix", that would be ideal. Bringing up some additional results is fine, this will mostly be a way to surf between titles.
Handruin,
What I want in an ideal world...alright, you asked for it ;)
A single search box that will return the records of anything similar to the title or similar to any one of the tags in the tag field. Titles may contain spaces, but tags are alphanumeric and separated with spaces. It would...
Thanks again Handruin. The HTML looks much cleaner with that quote removed, the backslashes in the form removed, and changing back to post didn't break anything. Now for what should be a simple question:
$query = "SELECT title,tags FROM movies WHERE title LIKE 'Cinderella' OR tags LIKE...
Not yet, but I haven't had to commute in it yet. I've been working from home for the last week. Ask me again this time tomorrow and the answer will likely be different.
Is it keeping you up? IIRC, you are PST as well.
I feel bad posting this code, because I know it is complete crap. But if you guys are going to continue spending your time helping me, you should see the whole thing. So here 'goes:
<?php
//Connects to database
mysql_connect("localhost", "root", "") or die(mysql_error())...
Yup, I tried this and it works fine:
...WHERE title='Cinderella'";
And this works fine, too:
...WHERE title LIKE 'Cinderella'";That leads me to believe that it is the syntax of the variable from the form that I got wrong.
Awesome. I knew I had to, but I hadn't found out how yet. Thanks...
Great question. I don't know. The HTML forms tutorial I was working from used post, so that is what I used. The pages I was reading didn't say how they were different.
I'm remembering why I hate coding...
The syntax on these is wrong, and I don't know how.
$query = "SELECT * FROM movies WHERE title=$_POST['titlesearch'] ";$query = "SELECT * FROM movies WHERE MATCH ( tags ) AGAINST ($tagsearch) ";'titlesearch' and 'tagsearch' are brought in from an HTML page...
I rip them using RipIt4Me and compress in AutoGK into a 1.85GB XviD file. That way I can fit them evenly onto thumbdrives for trips. The HD-DVDs I rip using AnyDVD and store whole on the drive (~30GB each).
I've pretty much decided that I want to use a tagging method. A really, really simple one. A single table, with 5 fields:
Index (do I need one?)
Title (varchar)
Tags (text)
FileLocation1 (varchar)
FileLocation2 (varchar)
Now all I need to be able to do is fulltextsearch the tags field, insert...
So. For this project I was thinking of doing it one of two ways:
1. Defined fields per movie:
Title
Year
Genre1
Genre2
Director1
Director2
Writer1
Writer2
Photography
Music
Actor1
Actor2
Actor3
Actor4
Actor5
Rating
Time
But I think I can be better served and with easier coding just using a tag...
Thanks Handruin. That was indeed the problem. I stumbled accross the answer earlier, and I thought I had posted the fix, but it doesn't look like it's here.
Now I'm looking for a reference on getting form data into the database.
Wow. Is that sample picture representative? If so, I need to get me one of these in 52mm form for my landscapes/panos. The haze sucks at distances over 2 miles.
