    1TB Sansung test

That is what having multiple monitors is for! Besides, CS3 won't install until I get SP2 to install. Which won't happen until I re-install the OS, which is why I'm looking into SSDs with more urgency than before.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I agree with SD. I use CF cards in IDE adapters all the time for my firewalls (2-4 a month?). The only trick is to be sure the BIOS can disable DMA support, as the adapters don't support it (even when the cards do).

SSDs - State of the Product?

Although shopping for my specific needs of the moment is nice, I really was hoping for more of a summary of what is out there. Who is currently shipping SSDs in volume? What is the range of speeds available? For my needs, I'm hoping not to lose too much STR over my current RAID-0 of Raptors...

SSDs - State of the Product?

We've seen a bunch of announcements, and a bunch of reviews. I've had them in my shopping cart at least 4 times, but no one I know actually has one. I'm hoping for information anyone has on what is currently available, how they compare, and what the best place to buy is. Links to reviews that...

Supreme Commander dies with a low-STR disk. Even with my Raptors in RAID-0, it takes nearly a minute to load a new level.

    Tax Refunds Explained...

Not the first time. I took the Coast Starlight (train) and only took what I could carry in one trip. The second time I had my hatchback and only took what would fit.

    Digital Camera SLR or SLR-like

I'm not sure about the ones with "live preview"s, but pretty much the definition of how an SLR works will prevent it from doing movies.

Agreed. Though I don't think China is the answer. They still have a long, long way to go. They have too many people to do anything quickly. I was actually thinking of Singapore for a while, but now that I'm learning Russian, perhaps the *stans are a decent place to "get ahead".

    Tax Refunds Explained...

The first time I moved, I was just out of high school and had less than $1k total. I had no job and no apartment waiting for me. I had no help from family, and a friend could only put me up for a week. When I moved to Eugene, Oregon I had no job waiting for me and minimal cash. I had a lead on...

    Clean ISO 3200 in low-res P&S?

If you take one of these crazy 10MP P&S cameras and do a high-speed shot with it, then take it into PP with the intent to leave with only a 1MP image, what sort of quality to you get? Surely being able to "burn" that much resolution will get you somewhere?

Low cost / High performance build suggestions

It does have firewire (1), but I understand the desire to have more upgrade options. In this lingering world of 32-bit OSes, taking the RAM to 4GB just seems "enough".

There are plenty of places where you can live if you are poor. It is not your gov't guaranteed right to live in NYC or SF, or around Silicon Valley. Core2Quad is too geeky and too cheap to ignore. It is fast and will be fast for a long time. Gigabyte has a bunch of motherboards with tons of features. Tax Refunds Explained...

Move somewhere cheaper. Really, I mean it. If you can't afford to live where you are, it is your problem not the governments. Where I live is very expensive, and there is no cheap place to live nearby. Therefore even the illegal mexican maid or gardener charges $15/hr. Fine. If they are good...

People will try to avoid paying taxes regardless of the system or how much they are supposed to pay. Buffett not using a loophole doesn't fix the problem. low-end laser printers these days?

IMHO, the 4000, 4050, and 4100 series are the next best thing to the LJ4 and LJ5; as far as pure bullet-proof-ness is concerned. If features, speed, size, and noise are concerned; look elsewhere.
