    WEBCAM

In that case, any webcam will do. You are looking for a software solution. Actually, let me qualify. As I'm sure you are aware, the sensors and lenses on these things really suck. That is what you are looking for hardware-wise, and I don't know how to suggest you shop for it. I have many...

Stupid UPS was supposed to deliver between 7AM and 10AM, it is now past noon and no sign. I have no idea what I'll do if I don't get the machine they are supposed to deliver (emergency replacement for a $22k box at one of the plants).

I got in at 7AM because FedEx informed me that my package may arrive at 7, and the office doesn't officially open until 8. The receptionist didn't show until 9, the package arrived at 9:05. I'm glad I installed a gaming card in my work PC.

SSDs - State of the Product?

They all get resold/redistributed. My home machine now holds the old SSDs, but because they are so small, that machine also has the Raptors as data drives. The 360GDs went out in workstations, and the Velociraptor (that was only in my machine for 2 weeks) got put in my boss' machine.

    Major rebate Processor Goes Bankrupt

I know it makes fiscal sense, but I can't bring myself to do it. Too eco-unfriendly. I don't even recycle my cans, but something about tossing a printer when it is designed to be reusable is just too much.

The only reason I can see for such a device is getting 30-40 people someplace that takes 2-3 hours to drive. Farther and you should get a private jet, closer and there is no point in this amount of comfort.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Nope. The X-25M is all I need*. my next big purchase (after the wedding and honeymoon) will be a car or a 5DII. *need, in this case, meaning "could possibly appreciate". I'm sure the Velociraptor was fine, as were the 3x 1st Gen SSDs before them, and the 2x 740GDs before them, and the 4x 360GDs...

I'm sure many people have gotten good deals with MIRs, but I've never bothered, and simply calculate the cost without factoring it in. If they want to sell it to me for less, they can sell it for less.

That is the plan. Whatever I end up getting to replace the 10-22 for FF duty will be a prime (possibly two). I'm actually getting quite used to framing/walking as needed with a prime as opposed to zooming to everything. Walking around while looking at something tends to yield better results.

Alaska Sen Stevens has officially lost.

He campaigned on how much money he brought to the state. Not how much they needed, or what use that money was. If all you want from the feds is money, someone like him is who you want getting it for you. Further, his seniority alone guarantees that the new guy won't be able to do as much.

    Sam's 256GB SSD-disruptive performance...cost?

That is getting to silly sizes now. I'm sure there are applications out there, but I don't think I'd want anything larger than a 128GB for my stuff. Exchange has a 100GB cap, none of my other databases are larger than about 60GB. Even running an army of VMs on a machine only takes up 10-25GB...

Yup, the 3x SSD got broken down and put into a bunch of cheap workstations. Even with the lagging it's faster than a 5400RPM dog all the time and a 7200RPM dog some of the time. The Intel is the only SSD that hasn't had lagging of some kind. I suspect that it will stitch much better, but I...

I'm not saying that it was purely HDD bound; I'm saying that it was a dog, and exhibited the performance freezes that we discussed in the SSD thread. I'm not saying it was a rocket the rest of the time, a 1.6Ghz Atom is not a rocket of a CPU.
