Wonder if the card shows up as C drive? I think it's a really cool idea, but, a lot of programs require a c drive installation to work, games in particular. Palm Pilot for another.
Should be near the perfect place for a scratch disk for PS, and a great place for the pagefile for XP.

On the otherhand, switching is a very good thing for paripheral parts, and cost.
Judging by IBM's pricing, I suspect they aren't going to give apple any parts deals likely to increase market share.
From what I got out of that article, they describe the different situations that slow down the...
Well, looks like Apple is stepping into the big leagues. I think what we are going to find is what Apple OS X users have known for a long time, OS X pretty much sucks speedwise, and, the competition is going to make either OS X faster, or MSFT is going to get even faster.
I really think this...

You know the great thing about law school is you get to meet some fascinating people.
Thanks to Eugene Swan, my Constitutional law professor at JFK Law School, a long time civil rights advocate, and former classmate of Thelton Henderson, at Boalt Hall, I had an hour interview with...
Hi Splash :mrgrn:
At the time, I don't think there was a raid controller that really worked for ATA raid. I do remember after buying the Maxtors, having others post they didn't work in arrays, and, Seagate tech emailed me saying they couldn't get the Promiseless cards to work with their...
I bought the current version of Trend P and, I first installed it on a Panasonic CF-37, with 192 mb of ram, and 366 mhz processor, windows 2000.
First off, when email comes in, it totally eats the processor, making any other kind of work out of the question. It also takes a LONG time to
get...
Hi
I check em everytime I go in to Costco. Usually Maxtors. They still haven't caught up on the warranties. 1 year still.
250 gig, or 300 gig, 250 dollars. Usually in external USB 2 housings, so that's some consideration. I did buy a Maxtor 160 gig Diamond Max 9 for about 120 or so, with a...
Gary:
I bought Maxtor 5120's, the supposed best IDE drives avaliable at the time. 5 of em. The other problem is ATA drives are phased out so often, that when one fails, and the warranty is for one year, you are sol. They ship you a "better" then your drive in Maxtor's case, but, that was...

I think it's too late for that one. Anyway, Just picked up an Antec P160, and a Seasonic 400w.
I just like the size on the Antec case, and, the 120mm fan. Price was good, and so was the Seasonic. They didn't have a bigger power supply, made by Seasonic.
Been wrestling with Intervideo DVD...
Mercutio:
You may have an excellent point. I do tend to use some pretty archaic hardware, such as an ATTO dual channel card, 2906 Adaptec, with a bunch of scsi drives, and chances of those ever having 64 bit drivers is probably pretty slim.
I have an uninstalled copy of 2000 pro laying around...
Thanks David.
That does seem to be the top rated, quiet, PS, but, it's 100 bucks from newegg.
Would be nice to find a bundle with that and a nice quiet case together...
s
Yes it is. With the P550 in it, it's a very nice office machine, but, it's on the border for the specs required for the NEC DVD player, processor speedwise.
Also, the AGP slot won't take the P650 I'd like to put in it. I think we've had it something like 7 years, and it's on constantly.
I'll...
Actually, I just picked up:
Gigabyte K8nsc 79 bucks, Amd 3000+ for 133.
and Talent pc 3200 memory 1 gig, 87. plus a Swiftech MCX6400-v and Vantec Sp922 for 66 bucks.
around 366, and now all I need is a case, and silent power supply.
Then, we are rocking...
Despite others comments, I do...
By the way, so many people have mentioned the quality of the NEC DVD players that I bought 4 of em. 3 internal are going into various boxes, and the external I'm using currently, a MadDog/Costco steal.
thanks all for the suggestions, and, keeping me away from Plextor.

OK
OK
the Gigabyte Nforce 4 boards 939 boards generally start at 130.
Keep in mind that old is not always slower, or worse. I'll be happy to put an 18 Gig old 15.3 Segate Cheetah as a boot drive, up against just about anything. For a desktop that is used for mild gaming, and school work...

That looks pretty good, and, I could use an AGP card, Matrox P650,
along with all my scsi stuff, buy an LSI card and boot from it, and, it wouldn't break the bank...

Hmmm:
Now you know why I haven't exactly jumped on the Athlon processor boat, again.
Not only are the features questionable, the pricing is pretty high. I can't help but feel the only real price value is around the 120-160 dollar price range, and then I don't get what I really want.
I also...
Considering some of the abuse some of my drives have suffered, with power blackouts etc. and the length of service, and only one DOA, I have no complaints with Segate at all.
They have supported their products very well, also.

"Seagate is on top of my list now because of their warranty and the price I get from our vender.
But it's still a crap shoot."
I really think you nailed it on this one. I go after Seagate scsi, and, refurbished drives. I figure a scsi drive that's been checked by the maker is a pretty good...
Hmmm.
Recently had a chance to watch a Athlon 3500+ with about the same video card, and it did move pretty well.
Recently bought a switch, and that has increased internet browsing speed a bit. Noticeable, actually, and I didn't think it would be. Use a 16 port at work, and, with a 250 k...
Gf stayed out Saturday night, didn't tell me why?
Came home Monday morning with great story, and hurt leg.
In retro, sequence is exactly something she would do. Meet new people, go racing, next day, screw up leg in bay to breakers.

that might be a great idea, then I could attach reciepts etc. to each page, and keep them in an orderly fashion, rather then doing forensic science at the end of the year.

Well, I'm addicted to computers, and I just don't do the write the stuff down. Tried it already, and, tried using the palmpilot.
Besides, it would give a reason to use an aging laptop (CF-37) 366 ghz that's pretty much too slow even for email, and trendmicro.
s
fOR 1200, works for me.
Keep in mind, the CF-37 was 2gs, really 4, but on sale.

PS I need a laptop for the bar, and, if the screen and keyboard work, the processor, and ram, should be fine...

Hi
Anyone have an idea for a software solution for tax records?
I'm looking for a mileage/expense setup that is going to require a bunch of different columns. Any ideas?
I'm thinking of using an old laptop in the car, since I suck using Palm pilot, etc. and entering the data ASAP, in...
Looking for an AGP motherboard, 8x, so I can use the Matrox p650, and the dual monitors.
Also, I thought the Athlon 3200+ was the best value of the new processors, due to something that I can't remember?
I like the ram prices.
Still looking...

Points sort of taken.
I guess it's because I use my Athlon 1.4ghz at school, and I'm sort of reminded that I didn't really get great value for my money. The Asus 266A7M is ok, but kind of over priced. Also, I can't do the kind of multi-tasking that a dual machine allows. When a 2.8ghz...
