So I shouldn't have any problem since the brightness on my new LCD is set at 0.
Jan,
I forgot to reply to your message. My old CRT was a Sony 220GS. I had it for at least 5 years. I left it running all the time for days on end and I never had any problems with burn-in. I just don't know...
I was just looking at my order history with Newegg and I found that I have ordered some $7000 worth of computer parts in the last year and a half. I find myself somewhat baffled by this amount of money. I bet a lot of you order that much stuff every month.
*not all of this is personal...
I try to buy everything I can from Newegg. Any problems that I have ever experienced have been sorted out immediately. Plus they are always very fast when it comes to shipping and have some of the best prices on the net. I have had good experiences with Amazon.com and Hypermicro too.
I received the monitor on Monday, a day early than what I expected. It is so much nicer than my old Sony Trinitron. Although they are the same size the LCD looks a lot larger. Plus, it runs at a higher resolution than my old monitor.
One question, do LCDs have any problems with burn-in? If...
I finally got Dell's order status tool to work and they have shipped my monitor and it should be here by Tuesday. I'll let you guys know how it looks when I get it.
I seem to meet people wherever I go. If I go to a bar then I will meet new people. Since I'm in college I take lots of classes and I almost always meet a few people in my classes. I met a whole lot of people when I lived in the dorms my freshman year of school, including my girlfriend.
I...
Is the Dell UltraSharp 1703FP 17-inch a good monitor? It has dual connectors and I can get it for $441 after rebates and coupons. Who manufactures this monitor?
I am buying a 17" LCD in the next day and I need to know which one to buy. The Samsung SyncMaster 171N is supposed to be a really nice monitor. However, it costs $460. Now the 170N is only $379 which is a much better price. What is the difference between these two models? Will I even be...
Why don't you just set Photoshop's priority to Low so that it will only use CPU cycles when nothing else is using them. A cheap fix that should make everything more responsive.
Santilli, I highly doubt you are doing anything mission critical enough to really need a SuperMicro board that costs over $500. Why not just pick up a Tyan board that will probably be 98% as reliable as the SuperMicro board for less than half the cost. I'm sure you can find something else to...
I crap at work all the time. This takes time away from work and is relaxing. I did it more though when I had a boring office job. When I would run out of work to do I would just go take a nice long relaxing crap. This can eat up to 20 minutes.
Dang that is a lot of high end servers. I sure would like to know where Gary works.
I bet it is for the government, like some top secret mission or something.
I have been packing up kitchen stuff and cleaning at the same time. I just can't seem to make any progress and I have filled about 8 boxes with stuff from the kitchen. I sure hope all this stuff will fit into a 16' truck.
Holy sh*t oven cleaner is some nasty stuff. I am cleaning everything in my apartment right now and I just got to the oven. I kept breathing the stuff by accident and almost threw up. It has some sodium hydroxide in it. I also got the stuff all over my hands because I don't have any of those...
SCSI optical drives aren't that cheap or that great. I went through 3 SCSI burners before I gave up and just bought the cheapest IDE one I could find made by Cyberdrive. It has worked better than all of the SCSI optical drives I have owned. So maybe just replace the motherboard and then get...
Thanks for the advice ZX. I went ahead and deleted the uninstall directories for all the Win2k updates. Now the WINNT dir is about 1.5GB. Why must the Windows directory be so large? I remember back in Win95 days when it was less than 100MB on a clean install.
I spoke too soon. The driver doesn't help the new Maxtor's transfer rates at all. It greatly helped my Cheetah 36ES' write speeds, but the Maxtor which is hooked up to the onboard Promise controller is unaffected by Cas' driver.
I tried out the utility that Cas wrote and it greatly improves write speeds. Has anyone here used this utility at all? Has anyone had any problems related to data loss?
I shut off SETI@home and the small block transfer rates got a lot better. It still didn't fix the problem with the new Maxtor drive having terrible writes.
Does anyone have a link to the utility that Cas wrote? Maybe I will try it out.
My Windows directory has gotten too large over the last couple of years. I am running Win2k SP4 and my WINNT dir is now approaching 2GB in size. There are many folders, which I know would be safe to delete; however I wanted to get some expert opinions before I proceeded. For instance the dir...
I don't think this is very accurate. The real beer dump is not just one dump, but between 5 and 20 dumps that can last as long as 24 hours after they start (which is usually the morning after the binge drinking fest).
I updated the picture of me. This picture was taken in the park right next to Buckingham Palace in London. It is me and my girlfriend and was taken sometime in May. (I'm the one on the right)
I have 3 IDE drives in my system for mass storage. I just added a Maxtor Plus 9 160GB drive and I had to hook it up to the onboard Promise fasttrak133 'Lite' controller. I decided to bench all three ide drives using ATTO to see what kind of transfer rates the new drive could do. The other...
I have one of those Mach 3 razors. I change the blade every couple of months. Since I am so lazy I only shave every couply of days this way I will help to save the environment. I hate using electric razors, they don't get close enough for me.
