    Audio Equipment

Well, they certainly didn't have anywhere near the amount of bass as my NHT 2.5i. Or the speakers that my friend ended up getting, the Rega R5. This might sound strange, but the RS6 almost sounded too tight, like it would give me a headache after listening to it for too long.

    Audio Equipment

I auditioned the RS6 also a few weeks ago when my friend was looking at speakers. I found them to be kind of weak on bass. So, unless you are planning on adding a sub-woofer, they might disappoint you. Personally, I don't want to have to have a sub on when listening to music.

I watched Sicko tonight. It made me pretty mad, although it was also funny at times. Too bad I don't speak French, or I would move there.

    Content Management Systems

I downloaded the Joomla JumpBox appliance to test out. Works pretty well. Do you use these in a production environment and open them up to the world? Or is this just used for internal stuff? From what I can tell JumpBox is free, am I correct here? I just need to register and then use it forever?

    Content Management Systems

I downloaded this and tested it out locally yesterday. It seemed promising, but after installing it, the backend administration screens were horribly crowded and hard to use. I also couldn't find documentation on how to install on Oracle. If you want to play with it there is a windows installer...

    Content Management Systems

I know there have been threads about content management systems in the past, but I'm looking for feedback on open source systems that I do not have experience with. My main experience has been with Joomla, and it is a fairly good piece of software, but I need some input on some alternatives...

The Dell Latitude D520 has a standard aspect screen. Note: I'm not endorsing a Dell. I've never used an Asus notebook, but you might want to check out the Asus A9Rp.

If every regular that has some extra money laying around were to donate whatever they can afford, I'm sure you would have to use minimal amounts of your own money. You already put more effort into the site than anyone else, why should you have to support it monetarily?

Why was the site down today?

Maybe it's time to switch to Dreamhost, or some other provider? I would be willing to kick in money to host the site and I bet a lot of other regulars would also be willing. But, it is still Doug that has to do the work of moving everything, so it is ultimately up to him.

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

I agree. So what if an "interesting character" tries to sell you some stolen socks, or a hair buzzer on the train. Say no and they will go on to their next prospect. I have never had anything stolen from me. I have heard of it happening, but as long as you pay attention to your surroundings you...

Yes, they deliver, but not that far away. 20 miles might not sound far, but that could take over an hour with the construction going on in that area, especially on a Friday night when everyone is on their way from Chicago to Michigan for the weekend.

One of the java developers on my team is originally from Chennai. Are you happy to be back in India after such a long time in the US? It's got to be quite a change. That flight has got to be torture. The longest flight I have been on was around 9 hours and I was ready to kill by the end...

Homewood is like 15 miles closer to you than Orland Park, so it is really only about 20 miles. That is not too far for pizza. There is a bar you could sit at and eat. I have seen many people sit and eat there alone. You don't have to drink either, just get whatever non-alcoholic drink you want...

    Laptop Coolers?

You need to go to the original Aurelio's in Homewood. Possibly the greatest restaurant in the world. Don't bother with their thick crust pizza, it's not good. Go for their original crust. Ask for it cooked in the old oven. The new oven sucks comparably. It is also supposed to be the largest...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

I didn't really address CAFE in my post. Seems like a half-assed solution to me. I want change now, not in 9+ years. The only way I see to do this is with a gas tax. I have been telling people for years that we need a federally mandated gas tax in this country. If I was in charge and didn't...

Best place to buy Samsung HDDs

The Samsung drive I saw packed by Newegg earlier this week was wrapped in about 4" of bubble wrap all the way around the clamshell. This seemed like it was sufficient. Didn't that Google study from a couple months ago say that heat wasn't a factor in hard disk reliability?

It should be fine for on-desk use. It is a pretty small case. Only room for 2 5.25" drives and 2 hard disks (3.5"). No place for a floppy, unless you put it in one of the 5.25" bays, but who uses floppies anymore anyways. You also need a micro-ATX motherboard for it. It appears to be pretty...
