I have to admit, that I only pay attention to low-level benchmarks too. Benchmarking....Again

The first question one needs to ask about benchmarking is what do people want from the benchmark. After knowing what they want then the benchmark is produced to reflect that want. I believe what people want out of a benchmark is a reliable indication of how the HW will perform in their...

    Windows 9X and TCP/IP

Yes, you can connect two 8 port hubs/switches together. Simply use a crossover cable on two of the ports and you will have a 14 port hub/switch. If the hubs/switches have a link connector then you would connect the link ports with a normal cable rather than the crossover. The supposed limit...

You can have multiple nics in a computer. One could be a 10base and one could be 100base. The 100base for the lan traffic and the 10base for internet traffic.

If Tea has 1886 phone lines, ISP accounts, serial connections, 56K modems, and the ISP allows them to be multi-linked together he could be running 100mb/s over 56Kmodems all running at 53kb/s. In that case it would be critical in not to use the 10Mb hub. On the unlikely case that he is...

    Geforce Decision...Which One

One correction in my previous post: The numbers 1600x1200x4 and 3200x2400x4 should actually be 1600x1200x3x4 and 3200x2400x3x4. This is actually because Nvidia is actually applying the 4xAA to the Z-axis too. I really don't know why they are applying the AA along the Z-axis but they are.

    Geforce Decision...Which One

Most modern monitors, even small ones can easily handle 1078x768+ resolution and even a small monitor will look better at higher resolutions assuming you are not exceeding its bandwidth limitations so I would assume that those with small monitors will generally choose higher resolutions. Thus...

    Geforce Decision...Which One

Gimmie a break. Even 1600x1200x32 bit color requires only 8MB of ram; All the rest is related to 3d and Texturing. Monitor size has little to do with video card memory requirements because very little of the memory has to do the increased resolution one can do with larger monitors.

Dumb question about net connection sharing

I don't know but I suspect that the release/renew timer elapsed and the W98 box requested and got a valid DHCP IP address. After that it worked. Note, with DHCP, it could have been the DNS or the GW addresses that were invalid, and were updated with the DHCP IP address: They can also be...
