    Why must TV forsake me?

I'm always wary of getting into a new Science Fiction fandom. I watched all of Star Trek in chronological order last year (starting with Enterprise and working up to Voyager and the TNG movies), and all of Babylon 5 the year before, and those didn't inspire my everlasting loyalty, but I'm sure...

Do we know that they're even working on another memory controller?

SSDs - State of the Product?

I would continue to buy Intel's SSDs based on continued goodwill toward their products and the simplicity of customer service interactions. That is something much more valuable than a small performance difference between its product and whatever the performance leader happens to be at the moment.

    Why must TV forsake me?

There have been several Stargate shows. I think at least one of them ran for 10 years.

I've got all the Stargate shows but I've never watched it. The movie was pretty awful.

I did say lots of cheap frames, didn't I? By my count I have 37 items I'd like to put up and even at $12 - $15 a pop that's going to add up, even setting aside the $250 I already spent for stuff I already put on my walls.

    Bite me, WinSXS directory

Yeah... I didn't install that stuff, which is why I don't understand how or why it might've grown like that. Especially since there's hardly anything else on the machine besides Windows and Office.

I have lots of wall space and many of my items are weird, different sizes. Like, I have a 9x13 item sitting here. It's just lame to have a choice between a $12 frame at retail or a $4 frame from the internet that has $11 worth of shipping attached. Where's the $6 frame with $3 worth of shipping...

I'm still not reading any good explanations of why that directory grows so large to begin with, or what might be impacted in the future if I do just delete all of it.

I thought these guys did good work. I suspect that they're making the pieces to order. It's annoying that I can find $4 frames but then the shipping on one turns out to be $30 or something.

My laptop's 80GB X25-M is full. There isn't that much stuff on that laptop. Office. VMware Player (the VMs are on another drive). Windows 7. This is the one without SP1, for what it's worth. But for some reason, I have 65GB winsxs folder. Linux doesn't do this shit to people.

    Why ECC RAM?

I noticed that when I was looking at my quiet server. I sort of shrugged and marked it up to some silly attempt at making an artificial product distinction; Intel might announce at some future point an i-series chipset that does do ECC, for all the folks (scientific computing?) waiting for one.

WinPE will. And you can boot from a .VHD. I suspect that it can happen from a removable drive just as easily as an internal one, though I must admit that I haven't tried.

OK photo people: I want cheap frames in weird sizes. The best deal I can find is usually from Adorama Camera, but their shipping is pretty bad, and some sizes they don't have at all (e.g. 10x15).

I don't think she's more than generically attractive. Now that I think about it, she was really the least attractive woman in the cast.

I don't know anyone who would disagree, but the supporting cast was nine shades of awesome.

Most of the cast will be at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo in a couple weeks. The biggest problem is that the conclusion is tragically low budget.

I don't think they run x86 code at all. They exist for computationally intense operations and apparently the architecture leans heavily on RAM and various levels of cache memory. Basically it's a chip one might use (in quantity) as the basis for a mainframe.

Intel just released new ones. If they were being EOL'd I doubt they would make the investment. Somebody must be buying them. They do run all the big name DBMS packages (Oracle, DB2, MSSQL and MySQL, at least) so presumably they have some kind of market somewhere.

Inspired by a post on Slashdot that the silly things still exist, I just went and looked at Itanium systems on Ebay. $300 for a dual core 1.5GHz machine with 16GB RAM? Even without x86 compatibility it seems like that machine should be worth that to somebody.

My ongoing exposure has been to more failed or flaky cards during that time period. We've had issues with mobile chipsets and I'd testify in court that every nvidia-based motherboard chipset I've deployed has had a shorter lifespan than other hardware of the same generation. My BFG 8800...

Dell and Gateway used to ship a lot of machines with discrete cards from Riva 128s up to Geforce 2s. They all sucked.
