    RealVNC & Windows 7

I know that Crossloop.com's underlying viewer switched from RealVNC to UltraVNC because UltraVNC doesn't automatically disconnect remote viewers during UAC prompts. I'm not sure what's different about RealVNC that it doesn't behave the same way.

Anyway, no, there's nothing wrong with that machine as a computer. It's decently fast for its age and I can understand why someone would like that form factor but...

Someone brought me a 24" Aluminum iMac. Needed a replacement hard drive. Time spent opening the stupid thing: 40 minutes, mostly 'cause the person who had it had messed up the one external Torx screw and I had to drill it out. Time replacing the drive and actually reinstalling the OS: 1...

IIRC, usually the second one is physically a 16x slot but there are only enough PCIe lanes for it to operate at 8x speed. But I think you need to go by what the manual is telling you.

SSDs - State of the Product?

No, because they're going to be WD drives and therefore unsuitable for any task other than very expensive building materials.

Timing of building a new system

I think right now is actually a pretty good time overall. We're at a stable point with CPU interfaces. DDR3 is in its mid-life. Expansion interfaces aren't likely to change any time soon and even in SSD-land, we're not long past a wave of new products. There's probably something new in the...

Timing of building a new system

Honestly, I don't see Bulldozer doing much of anything to Intel's pricing unless it eats the i3/i5 alive. And if it does that, it will probably be priced accordingly. More than likely, it will create more downward pressure on low-cost parts, a space where AMD is already the big winner for...

802.11 in any form loses about half its theoretical bandwidth to protocol overhead. On top of that, the bandwidth is shared among all connected...
