PC Gaming = World of Suck

I suspect we've all wanted to play a proper Aliens game since the first time each of us saw that total conversion .wad for Doom.

    Athlon II 170u? Webcam?

Since it's an AMD, it should have decent onboard video processing and I'd imagine that 720p will be fine. The Athlon 170u is indeed an ultra low power chip that's meant to be used in the same sorts of applications as the Atom. Unfortunately, that's not going to stop companies like Compaq and...

New motherboard supports 288GB of RAM

I would think that such things would be better off in a cluster configuration where each x CPU cores would have its own access to a pool of RAM. Even with 2TB of RAM, there's only so much bandwidth available to access memory, and anything that's going to work well in parallel across 80 cores is...

    USB 3.0 drives

I've got a couple different USB3 enclosures and I've been using them a little bit for the last couple days. One of them seems to top out at around 60MB/s and the other around 70MB/sec. That's... disappointing.

New motherboard supports 288GB of RAM

Exchange murders RAM and disk I/O. It's not really that rough on CPUs. But 80 CPU cores and 2TB RAM seems to me like it would be pushing into mainframe territory. I have no idea what mainstream application that would have besides hosting virtual machines. And it would probably be cheaper and...

Funny you mention deer: My uncle lives just outside an Illinois state park. He hits a deer on average once every 18 months. My uncle retired back in May, and as a retirement gift to himself he bought a completely restored '69 Charger with 19,700 miles on the odometer. Basically the car he...

    Non-widescreen LCD

    1. 1280x1024 is 5x4 2. The thing you want to find are the high end model Dell Ultrasharp displays that were made circa 2006. They sold zillions of them. I have a classroom that has them, and they look infinitely better than the crappy HannsG displays I've been buying lately.

Apparently, I now have to decide on and purchase a wider range of technology. Rather than replacing classroom machines like I wanted, my company is instead buying a bunch of tablets, cell phones, cameras, X10 equipment and other toys. Maybe I can at least put some notebooks in there.

Yeah. Your instructor wants to see diagrams. As an IT certification instructor, I'd like to make it clear that we are some lazy mofos. Which is why your guy is telling you to use Cisco's thing that he's familiar with rather than something you're legally able to use, too.

You're not missing anything. They're a terrible pain in the ass, especially with the inconsistent handling of app opens and closes. Honestly, I don't think it will.
