Well, Hi Tea. First off, the thought of buying a new ide drive, just off the production lines, for anything, makes me want to throw up. Buy end of life, proven drives, and use em for storage is the way I like to go. Last time I did this I bought 5 Quantum LM's, for something like 50-75 each...

I've never understood the need for huge storage these days, when you can burn CD's for data, and DVD's for data, for 50 cents or less, for 600 MB. Seems like it's been neglected, but I suspect server type caching algorithims, and the large caches on cheetahs, function better in a random access...

Problem with the drive is that you have to hook it up to a controller. The problem with ide, serial, whatever, is it's low cost, and, so are the controllers. Another problem is I save my money, and buy stuff that I hope doesn't break every three years, or less. Most of the people here are...
