All I have to do is hook into my 8 port hub, and I'm good to go. One ethernet cable, and I'll load it up with drives, to act as a NETWORK server,(my bad), for documents and backups. Only problem is I just hooked up my external raid box, using the 2940 I was going to use in the other box... Oh...

Actually, the old Barracuda is just fine. Needed to delete the partition before formatting. Old Cheetahs do make cool paper weights.. :lol: gs

Well, I copied all my stuff to disk for backup, then started the machine again, moving the scsi id for that disk to 6, and the card is currently working fine at 15. That's the adaptec card. I'm using the adaptec formatting tool to format, but, according to my disk i/o lights, nothings...

Pradeep: Since the drives are on different cards, I didn't think their scsi ID's would be a big deal. I could be wrong. After I get done backing up my documents folder, I'm going to reboot, after I change that drive to a different id number, just in case... gs

You guys almost had me swapping the P3 450 from the backup to the Dell XPS R400, with the P2, 400 mhz. I thought better of it. This thing isn't bad, all things considered. It works, and meanwhile I'm screwing around with my PC, adding an adaptec card, and raid box for storage. gs

Buck: When I format with 2000 it shows the disks as being dynamic, vs. simple for the atto raid. WHY?

Figured it out. I had to disable the host adaptor bios on the adaptec card, so the computer goes to the next bootable scsi card, the atto. The other alternative is to play musical cards, in the different pci slots. s

Having fits. I've got an UW adaptec 2940 card, and I'm trying to connect my external raid box to my pc. It was a mac box. When I boot, it says it's booting off the ATTO card, but, it's changing my hard drive ID from C to D. Can't figure out why. I've moved the scsi ID for the 2940 to 15...

I've thought about that. First off, it has only 3 pci slots. USB takes one, Scsi UW the other, and Voodoo 5500 for the last one. The voodoo has no drivers under OS X, and, from what I can gather, niether does any old scsi card avaliable. So, if I upgrade to OS X, I have to pull the Scsi...
