Cheetah 15.3 or 15.4 for boot drive?

Gary: Using the adaptec 21010S, what's the top transfer rate you've got with it? I think it maybe the slow spot in my raid. I'll test raiding two of the 320 15.3's to see if I can get over 80 mb/sec, unless you know for sure. Thanks s

Cheetah 15.3 or 15.4 for boot drive?

Thanks: Just got a great deal on two 146 gig 10K cheetahs, for storage. 209 each, refurb. Also 3 15.3 36 gig for 85 each. Should do me for quite awhile. Groltz: I've actually got an extra 15.3 sitting in a box. Could use the cable, and card, and terminator, and maybe the drive, if the...

    Opinions on Supermicro

My end result has been the bios has needed little or no updating. Unlike Asus, which seemed to release a new bios about 4 times after the board is released, to just get all the features to work properly. I always suspected Asus figured the consumers are their R&D department. s

    RAID: 4 x 15.3 Cheetahs on ATTO UL3D or use 320 box?

Hi I'm getting ready to reconfigure my computer and here is my problem: I don't know which array would be better for speed. Simply flawless, on the X5DA8. Incredible board. Only problem has been noisy stock intel fans, on the 2.8's, and, the onboard scsi has the 50 pin setup with the plastic piece down, so getting a cable to fit is a pain in the ass. By the way, the quality of stuff is pretty close to the original tapes. The REALLY bad tapes seem to improve with the limited amount of tweaking you can do with WindVD, but, the fair to good ones seem about the same, or slightly less, as an end result. Still, it's nice to be able to backup...

Also, a much faster burner, and media, would also help. The Sony DRU-530A writes around 2x most of the time, with 4x Sony media, and very conservative writing settings. Tradeoff is very few coasters. However, an 8X writer, with 8X media might be a much better, if more costly, solution. s

Video editing solution? Burning to DVD?

Apparently the long conversion time, from mpg to DivX, was due to the compression of the video. Saving the mpg in the standard, non-compressed one hour for 4.7 gig DVD format took much less time. About 30-45 minutes. That gives you files that you can burn to DVD using any burning program, or...

Video editing solution? Burning to DVD?

I think the step after the mpg capture allows you to edit, combine, and insert menus and words, creating a movie. The make movie part puts the different parts together. Without splitting up the video, you don't end up with any go to features, just one huge file that you have to fast forward...
