I share Howell's concern on restore. I'd make sure that they can send you a DVD/HDD with all your data for a fee.

Just the other day someone wanted me to retrieve data from a super old memory card. It looked like an SD card, but twice as wide/long and half as thick. I think it was 32MB. None of my card readers even have a slot the right size.

I'm back on Team Fortress 2, but Desktop Tower Defense Pro multiplayer is eating all my time.

Most of you are lucky enough to live near a US border. Drive/train across, and fly from there. Me? Any US land border is at least 10 hours away.

Vista and 7 have a bunch of RAID card drivers already integrated. Can't speak to that exact one, but many work without disks. Even if they aren't supported automatically, you now have the option of putting the drivers on a USB thumbdrive or CD. Floppy not required.

Does that laptop have an SSD in it? If not, don't worry about the 100Mbps. That won't be the bottleneck, and is still MUCH faster than wireless.

Google has computers that read my e-mail and would be giving me targeted ads....if I weren't blocking them. That bothers me not at all.

The problem is that the computers don't know which way to send information. My proposed solution would be to connect both machines to the router via cables when you want to transfer files. It should be nearly as fast, without the downsides.

The advantage of having your mail hosted with Google is that you don't need to worry about spam. That address is all over the place, and I see perhaps one SPAM a month.

Nothing new, but my biggest complaint about each new version of windows is that they break out the control panels more and more. This is a quick way to make a bunch of changes.

You are probably right. I have climate controlled boxes going in next week, and on-line UPS systems on the way. I'll swap out the linksys with another and see what happens. I might even crack the case and look into active cooling.

Price is really good. I don't see them coming down much more. Larger sizes will approach that price, but a bit more than $100 is low enough to clear most peoples restrictions. I have a stack of those on my desk right now, and have used a dozen in the last week. A pair in RAID-0 (60GB) should do...

My parents had one of those, in the 80s I think. Most of the names/addresses were crossed out, as they were no longer accurate. There might have been 5 pages of legit data in a 30 page book, but I couldn't read the handwriting anyway. Not a chance I'll be bothered to carry something else around...

Depends on a lot of stuff. The typical is that it is copied from the disk to memory, then messed with, then it overwrites the one that was sitting there. Of course, all kinds of things can affect this.

That's what I'm doing, but it will take all night. What I attempted to do was physically move the drives containing the VMs to the new server, adding them to inventory, and starting them. That would have taken about 10 minutes.

Somehow upgrading the version of ESXi gives me an error any time I try to start a VM. It basically says that this ESXi server doesn't support features that the old one did. It won't tell me which features, or offer to disable them. Just refuses to start. Crap. Now in the process of converting...

My memory is exceptionally bad. I keep my contacts in my phone and in my gmail account. Occasionally I manually sync the two.

The framing is way more expensive than the printing. I have my prints done on canvas and mounted as a "gallery wrap" by places online. Cheaper that way, and I kinda like the look.

I used to drink a whole lot. Last night was the first in about 3 months, with a bottle bubbly each. Had one at the house, then drove up to enjoy the view of the city below from a healthy distance and killed off another. This is the least hangover I've ever had from champagne.

For the record, phones on the Sprint/Nextel system are 3 minutes slow.
