    Something Random

Possibly. I did inquire with JTR some time ago about the feasibility of going all-LED, and the answer was "if money means anything, not yet". Perhaps things have changed? I'll probably start a thread on this topic, as decisions will need to be made relatively soon.

Well, it does freeze here about 5 days every 5 years, and it exceeds 90F about the same number. 80% of the time it is between 55F and 75F, so insulation when it was built (in 1960) was considered optional. Someone did have insulation blown into the ceiling about 5 years ago, but the furnace is...

Because there is no insulation, and the electrical and data wiring needs to be updated. And thanks ;)

What's the best wireless router these days?

In my experience, if you have issues with a WRT54GL, it is the power brick and not the device. Just FYI.

    Ripped off SATA connector

Get a PCIe-based SSD and avoid the whole issue. ;)

    Ripped off SATA connector

I did that with the power connector on an original Raptor, good thing those drives also had molex connectors on them ;) It is very much a risk, and I think only a board swap could save you.

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

It isn't the lightest with that screen size, but it is loaded with features, and incredibly well built. It is hard to advertise quality, which is why so few vendors bother with quality, but Lenovo seems to have done just that.

    Server racks for home use

All racks are very expensive. You might find one discounted at the local Frys/Microcenter. If it is that few boxes, just get rackmount chassis for them and stack them on the floor. Or you can build a coffin.

    Something Random

Quite possibly because I don't read the consumerist. I also didn't fully understand the process, and was under the impression that the people I was dealing with wielded some level of power, decision making, or even understanding of how things worked. As it turns out, the people whom I met and...

That is a healthy time between reboots. Not a record, but well above average certainly.

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

It is awesome. Already upgraded to 8GB of RAM and the 200GB Vertex LE goes in upon arrival tomorrow. I think that pushes it out of the $800 price range ;)

    Something Random

BofA today reached a new level of stupid. They'd already given final approval, and I've already signed all the documents. The only thing we're waiting on is for them to fund the loan. This morning, they requested another letter of explanation about some inquiries into my credit rating. These...

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

This T410 is freaking awesome. I've never felt such a solid keyboard before. A physical switch to turn off all radios. Drip channels that route liquids spilled on the keyboard all the way through and out the bottom of the chassis without invading the machine? How cool is that? My only complaint...

    problem Spam at the office

The very fact that there is a policy about not talking about corporate (or that there is a 'corporate') means that you work for a large, slow-moving company. It also means that they should be able to handle something in addition to their "main challenge" without becoming overwhelmed. ;)

What's the best wireless router these days?

Merc doesn't like the E3000, I think one will be good that isn't available. No one else has voiced an opinion. What exactly were you expecting?

I'm not really worried about them going out of business; they are successful and I believe their business model is "the future". I just worry about them changing the terms at some point to something I won't be able to stomach. The #1 feature I like is that I can have the game at work and at...

What's the best wireless router these days?

You got it. I really like this company; their products are amazingly cheap and perform well. The downside is their supply really sucks. It has taken me weeks to get some of their other products.

I have a few spare machines, but setting it up for maximum production was considerable effort last time I tried. I have quite a few spare cores (8? 64-bit, ~2Ghz) in the VMWare farm, is there a decent VM image I could throw on there? My workstation could be assigned to the purpose, but how...
