    3TB HD from WD

No idea. I bought a 4-port 3Ware controller to fool around with, but my main install will be directly on the ICH of my Gigabyte GA-H57M-USB3 boards.

It's only a gamble if there is something to lose. With the data backed up elsewhere, I'd rather not have to break up my data. Besides, the added speed will be nice ;)

PC Gaming = World of Suck

Considering the statistical obsessives that are all over the Civ world, I doubt I'm the first, but I managed to get a city to 91 population!

    3TB HD from WD

No need for mozy. I'll just keep a copy at work. We have about 10TB to spare at the moment, and my link to them is much faster than anything I could get to the internet. If I needed to do a full restore, I could put all the drives in the same system for the bulk copy.

What on earth is a 'Hairy Aussie'?

Indeed. A hairy aussie is someone who has nothing better to do than sit around and post here. I don't know about the others, but this is the only forum I access regularly. Edit: Oops, I forgot that I'm not one anymore.

    3TB HD from WD

They will hold about 4TB, but even a busy day would be 30GB. Regardless, GbE is no doubt enough to keep up with the file creation in real-time. Restoring from a failure is another matter; 11 hours is a realistic ballpark to transfer 4TB over GbE if there is no other traffic. How comfortable am I...

Yup. So is this, IMnsHO. My translation goes as follows: This thread is about monitors, so workflow means photography. Managed workflow is the portion of that where you have some frame of reference for the accuracy of color. Therefore your uncalibrated devices are exaggerating the red in your...

    3TB HD from WD

Me too. I haven't even started the research on how this will work. The content is massively static, and the odds of the two users (my wife and I) changing the same file at the same time is zero. The speed between the two machines (GbE) is huge compared to the file sizes, and the network traffic...

PCI express 2.0 in a PCIE slot?

Yup. The general rule with PCIe is the same as USB; if it will fit, it will work (possibly at some lower performance level)

My 3TB drive from the Egg arrived this morning. Packaging was awesome. Waiting for the other 3 to arrive from somewhere else.

    When to Build New System

I've only once tried to build a quiet rackmount system, and failed quite badly. They just aren't set up for it. Those drive enclosures take a 92mm fan swap really well.

    When to Build New System

For cheap servers, where I just need a computer in a rackmount chassis, I use this one. It has 6 5.25" bays in it. Having 20 2.5" SSDs and 4 2.5" HDDs for backup would be a pretty potent VM storage array.

    Something Random

Funny story. When I was growing up, we lived about two blocks from the grocery store. When I was very little, I was trusted with a mission. My mother gave me a $20 bill and sent me to the store for some flour. Without any reference to go by, I picked the biggest bag of flour that I could get for...

Parallel printer at the end of a CAT5 run

FAH is not playing nicely on any of my systems. Even though it is set to the lowest priority, it still has negative effects on video through MPC-HC, PowerDVD9/10, even youtube video. None of these systems are underpowered, this is a decent example. Is this common?

    One idea to make money.

There really aren't any decent PATA laptops anymore, so designing a modern device for it would be a dead-end. A PATA-SATA converter of some kind would be an interesting device on the market, particularly if it allowed you to connect 1.8" SATA drives in the form factor of a 2.5" PATA drive.
