It could be a laptop..."say hello to my little friend..." ;)

    Buying a projector

My InFocus X10 finally died after many years of intensive use, now I'm looking for a replacement. As we're spending my money and not my boss', the top-end JVC is out. I have a budget of $2000-2500, would like a little more light than my current one (1200lm) and if it could be quieter that would...

    Special heatsink requirements...

I'm using a modified Antec 4U chassis so I can get some decently large fans, heatsinks, and a standard power supply in there. No standard HDDs, only one Revo and one GPU. Not even an optical drive.

Revodrives? What would work with my setup?

I don't know how I would identify a PCIe bottleneck. I buy these drives because they are the last (even remotely sane) word in speed. Because of that I simply put them in and don't worry about it. On systems like those in my sig and my other recent creations there seem to be delays that can't be...

That is what the guy I was riding with said. Of course, the advice I'd received from teammates included knowing the size of the hill and pacing your ascent. But any of these are big enough that I'm just lucky to live through. One of them is called "the wall"; it is actually on the local "Sea...

My progress with Supermicro Tech support: <1 Hour> <2 Minutes> <2 Hours> <2 Minutes> We'll see where this goes. Did they really build a non-standard socket/mounting plate? Do they not offer a heatsink that isn't bundled with one of their high-density super-noisy expensive chassis?

All the US A4s have heated rear seats as an option at the Prestige trim. For the interior, I can't stand black seats; they get so hot in the sun. Revodrives? What would work with my setup?

The 295 is in the first 16x slot, IIRC there is an 8x or 4x slot above it (Revos are 4x cards and will work in anything 4x or bigger)
  17. ddrueding

Revodrives? What would work with my setup?

I'm trying to remember which 295 card that is, and what the heatsink/fan looks like. Any of them will fit in the slot closer to the CPU than the GPU, and the lower PCIe slots would work as well. As we had talked about before, I wouldn't worry about getting one for speed; they are all fast. Get...

B3, chill out. Nowhere in my post did I insult anyone. I wasn't labeling a group, just a unit of measurement. People don't drive for a predetermined amount of fuel, they drive for a predetermined distance. And while GPM can be derived from MPG, looking at a graph of 1/x shows the problem. It...

    Something Random

I think we can all agree that MPG is a stupid way of measuring and comparing these things. We don't drive until we've consumed a gallon of gas. And gallons per mile provides a less exaggerated gap in consumption: My car does 32MPG = 0.031GPM A good 600cc 45MPG = 0.022GPM Chewy's 250cc 78MPG =...

In that scenario you aren't too worried about the condition of the bike afterwards, so you can just ride the CRX to bits anyway. Besides, only in Hollywood would a 250 be enough to outrun anything but your dog. ;)

I suspect that the CBR will also give you a better ride on-road, with more damping and less travel. Not sure if it is adjustable as it was on my CBR600F4i, but it made a huge difference. Of course, taking the CBR offroad would provide a very bad ride, but you weren't going to do that anyway.

Loss of system restore points when alternating between Windows XP and Windows 7

I can't answer your questions on System Restore because I don't use it. In fact, I disable it as one of the first steps of configuring a new machine. Since you have two OSes, you can just use Clonezilla to clone the drive you aren't currently booting from. It also makes a convenient place to...

Loss of system restore points when alternating between Windows XP and Windows 7

I don't like system restore. It isn't a backup per-se, because it is on the same drive and can be effected by viruses, etc. It also doesn't give me the kind of control that I like in such things. Get disk imaging software of some kind and keep complete drive images offline in removable storage...

SSDs - State of the Product?

It is still likely the slowest part of your IO stream, but the percentage of time that your system is waiting on the drive has shrunk massively. The gain from further improvements is nearing zero as soon as you go SSD in the first place (for normal usage).

Installing Win7 onto a RAID of big drives

My normal build for HTPCs is a smallish SSD for the OS and apps, and then a large array for data. The main service call I get on HTPCs is people filling the system drive with large media files. My thought was that this would solve that issue.
