Thanks for that! Didn't even know it was an option. I found a more detailed (though less grammatically accurate) writeup here.

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

My '66 Sprite Midget had no seatbelts at all, there was no option. I installed a lap belt the first week I had the car. I wasn't safety minded at the time, but the seats weren't very supportive, and the door would occasionally open on it's own mid-corner.

There is quite a bit of sand near the beach (go figure) and the field roads are always dirty.

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

I'm pretty sure this is why the insurance companies are keen to fix the chip without charge; it saves them the windshield replacement later on. Of course, my windshield (and every windshield with >25k miles) is completely covered in tiny pits that bug me to no end. I wouldn't mind replacing the...

Reasonable drive configuration for an entry level file server

Yeah. A number of my clients are 2-4 users. In some of these cases the server is in fact just a workstation, and the backup goes to the other workstation.

    That is awesome.

Reasonable drive configuration for an entry level file server

Nope. In fact, many are still running the Win7 that came on the (usually Lenovo) workstation that I'm using. Most of my smaller clients aren't even on a domain anymore now that I don't use Exchange/Outlook.

48V DC LED wiring for a new build; XM-Ls, etc.

It also seems that the unit was designed for 700mA (most of the graphs use that as a reference), but efficiency numbers (like 100lm/W) are typically at much lower power settings.

48V DC LED wiring for a new build; XM-Ls, etc.

On the PDF under "Thermal Design" it shows that ambient can be 70C so long as the thermal resistance between the LED junction and ambient is kept below 7°C/W. Of course keeping it lower than that will help the lifespan of the LEDs, but that is a lot of headroom. Also, under the "Lumen...

    Cycling

Tonight's ride was also interesting. Headed out into the now closed Fort Ord military base to take advantage of hilly roads closed to vehicle traffic, but my headlight battery died 10 miles from home. That was a nervous ride back.

    Cycling

Rode the track yesterday. The hill before the corkscrew is ~15% grade...utterly ridiculous. If you try to spin it out while sitting down the front wheel keeps hopping, if you do it standing up and don't keep the cadence high enough you roll backwards. The race of the evening was a time trial...

Reasonable drive configuration for an entry level file server

My basic fileservers have a single drive for OS+Data with Acronis used to backup the whole thing to the Boss' client machine. That folder is then synced somehow to the boss' house (via VPN if possible, sneakernet if not)

48V DC LED wiring for a new build; XM-Ls, etc.

I intend to. But we were moving in and I needed a quick and dirty fix. Last I talked to him he was working on LED bike lights. I think it was in a thread around here somewhere. Nope. When I realized that the heater in the house wasn't usable, and that we didn't have the money to install the...

Glass Gremlins v. windshield chip repair

Never seen them here, either. Here it is just bums lying about their car breaking down or not having money for gas. I do actually require the services of a glass chip repair guy, but I've been too lazy to bother. The day I bought my car I got a chip on the drive home. Another happened last week...

    1. Welcome to StorageForum! 2. Your project sounds fascinating. Not unlike something that I was trying to do while remodeling a while ago. Some work on my A3

Thanks for that. I never plan to track the car, and as far as a single stop from 130mph goes, even the stock are fine. Just looking for something light. A 5+lb weight savings would be worth consideration.

I'm old enough to like the sound deadening on my daily driver, thanks ;) I do intend to do some engine mods after the warranty is gone (16k miles and counting), but in the meantime I would like to keep some kind of steady progress. question How do people buy music these days?

I listen to a lot of public radio, but it isn't like they don't have commercials. Sure they have less, but the time they spend announcing sponsors or asking for donations (don't get me started on pledge drives) is basically a commercial. In this world of digital internet stuff you would think...

question How do people buy music these days?

Hardly. Before using Pandora, I hadn't purchased any music in many years. I started using their free service when it came out, and started liking what they recommended so much that I bought it (Amazon MP3). When they limited their free service to 40 hours a year I went onto their paid service...

No, I wish I could. If I could get the deal Stereodude got I would try, but it would still be a mistake financially. Yeah, plus a dozen pairs of 3D shutter glasses at $100 each. And the fiber optic HDMI cable. And the rest of it. I could probably have paid cash for my dream Audi for the cost of just the system upgrade.

Just got the DLA-RS65 fully set up, it is an amazing unit. Amazingly bright, but the big kicker is the contrast ratio (120,000:1), the blacks on the...
