    Windows 7 nonsense

Well my work laptop is now running Windows 7 x64 Enterprise, w/Office 2007. Still got to install all the other applications that I need, but for the time being it's all working fine. I have already experienced 1 BSOD (cause unknown, it happened just after installing the Intel Display drivers...

    Western Digital SAS drive

Umm, what's the point in that? Since SATA has nearly all the same features that SAS has these days? Then couple SSDs making slow headway into the enterprise market, it seems like a last ditch effect to keep market share... Anyway, don't VR's have a higher than average failure rate? (Or that...

    Windows 7 nonsense

Thanks, I'm so glad MS are open about such things... I think I have found away around it. If I fit a US-International keyboard, set language to English (Australia) with US-International keyboard, then he gets all the additional keys he needs, and it'll support all things he needs. The only thing...

Multi-national Language Support I do have a quick question about what versions of Win7 have multi-national language support? According to MS, I need to get Ultimate for any form of multi-language support? Is that correct? I just remember when I was at TechEd this year, there was some mention...

    Drives Not Recognised By BIOS

I've heard rumors of Samsung drives in general not liking nForce controllers, and using the Samsung utility software corrects the issue... eg http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1298857 But since I tend to only have Seagate drives at the moment, I can't help with specifics.

    nVidia exits the chipset business

http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/chipsets/desktop-chipsets.jsp IIRC, they don't have a license for current i5/i7 offerings, as nVidia doesn't either, (which is the main topic of the thread). They do a license for HT, but not HT3.0 which means they can make AM2/AM3 compatible chipsets, but will...

Phone thread: What phones are you using, and with what plans?

I've got a Sony Ericsson K800i, with 3 Mobile (in Australia). Had no issues with it... But then again I only use it as a phone, or occasionally as a camera (rated at 3.2MP) for spur of the moment shots.

Fantastic advice! I typically only carry 1 compass, as I'm confident in navigation using both Sun and Star positioning/navigation methods. When will you upgrade to Windows 7?

The company got them a few weeks ago as well, but haven't distributed them outside of head office yet. Last time I checked, the DVD + key were in the mail, as they say. Having just been to TechEd '09 Australia, getting the HP Netbook and having a play with Win7, I was impressed with what MS has...

    Font Wars: Microsoft Wins

After reading the article, it has nothing to do with the Adobe vs MS on font engines. It's about Ikea (the furniture maker) using Verdana as the primary font in it's 2010 catalogue, vs the older serif font it used in 2009. Yep, they switched from a serif font to a sans-serif font in the new...

Nothing that I'm away of, considering I use GNOME as my default desktop? (Actually I use JDS - Java Desktop System, which is a Sun rehash of GNOME, but for all purposes it is GNOME). But some people like the tweakablity of KDE vs GNOME, and KDE tends to be "prettier" than GNOME due to that...

    Netbook for the wife

I thought this was common knowledge, any netbook running GMA500 series chipsets should be avoided (when using anything other than Windows) due to lack of drivers for the display and associated chipset. IIRC, the GMA500 graphics core is not a branch of the Intel gfx core, but is made by PowerVR...

They're most likely left over from Windows Updates. (They are the temp folders used by the updates). To delete, boot in safe mode, and attempt to take ownership, apply sane permissions, and delete, etc. If they fails, rip the drive out, insert into a second machine and you should be ok to...
