    New phone time

Android updates are weird sometimes. Even if the handset manufacturer has provided an update, the carrier still has to distribute it or choose not to. Samsung does have another update mechanism built into Kies, its PC connectivity package, but I suspect that very few people are aware of or use that.

You can close a one window and open a different one if you need to. And the windows are freely resizeable, which is the kind of advanced technology that Microsoft should some day employ for Metro apps.

Chrome, the stock browser, Gmail, the Samsung Email App, Youtube, Google Maps, the Gallery App, the stock SMS app, Google Talk and a half-dozen other weird Samsung apps all work with it. Firefox does not and I don't see any other media players that do. Google Drive and Dropbox don't. I tend to...

The S4 supports dual windowed applications. Seriously. I can have Youtube and Gmail open at the same time, on the same screen. I can adjust the proportion of the screen granted to each app. If I rotate, the layout adjusts automatically. I weep for wonder. It only works with some...

Has the Windows machine been rebooted recently? When did this start? Did it ever work and then stop all of a sudden? Samba is goofy sometimes monthly updates and this is just about the right time for that.

Having GPS coordinates in EXIF data isn't an entirely horrible thing. There's something to be said for knowing exactly where a picture was taken. If you'd prefer to keep that information personal, I know there are various scripts and standalone executables that can scrub that data out of...

Any time anyone gets a new Android device the first thing that should be done once it's connected to 802.11 is to hit play.google.com to push all your apps down to the new device while it's charging. I really wish there was a "Clone Apps from...

    USB Bluetooth Adapter

In that case I'll just say that I've purchased four or five different BT adapters and I haven't found any of them to work as well as it does on my phone or tablets. It's AWESOME to have to track down a proper keyboard so you can re-pair the wireless one that lost its connection.

That sounds more like a poor firmware implementation than anything else. DHCP traffic should traverse a bridged network just fine and I doubt you're using a different subnets for wireless so that seems... misfeature-ish.

After some debate between the Note 2 and the S4, I went with the S4. You might as well add RAM. It's cheap and will definitely improve the experience. An SSD would also help you, but it's tough to say that it's justifiable. Perhaps if you knew that you have another machine that could use it if the Dell dies.

    question Which Tablets

    question Which Tablets

At least in the US, premium tablets usually offer the option of cellular internet service. Usually there's a $100 premium over non-aircard equipped hardware. It's hard to justify on a tablet since you're likely going to be paying $40/month for a data plan for it. But how ubiquitous is 802.11 in...

SSDs - State of the Product?

IPv4's address space is a fully compatible subset of IPv6.
