Intel X299: What is it good for?

I don't know why the differences are so small. The Threadgripper is less than 20% faster than the old 4790K 2014 technology. At this rate it will be 2025 or later before double the performance per core is achieved.

So I opened one of the extra drives from a month ago or so, and the internal drives are a different kind of RED from what is sold online. The model is WD80EFAX, so maybe it is of a lower grade or has different internal organs. The cases really crack and cut the fingers. :(

Would you worry about this reallocated sector count?

I'm also not sure if that number is the actual number of re-allocations or something else. What does HDtune or other well known program show for re-allocated sectors? There really should not be any, but I've seen it happen on the 2.5" SSDs with power supply issues and the counts did not change...

    WD is at it again

Does anyone wonder if 4-bits per cell WD flash will store data as reliably as their esteemed HDDs? This latest achievement follows a nearly three-decade long legacy of industry firsts in flash innovation, including the industry’s multi-level cell (MLC) flash technologies using two bits...

I should have figured out last year that M.2 on board or PCIe adapter makes no difference, but anyway the XP941 is set up as the boot drive now. I then replaced the aged Intel 520 SSD (Sandstorm based) with a new 250GB 850 EVO.

It seems that the XP941 does not boot normally due to being M.2, which must boot as EUFI. Since the installation was previously MBR I had to create and restore an image to GPT and force the EUFI in the BIOS during the process.

Mostly they are by telepresence rather than in-person meetings, since I am at a satellite office for a while. It's much better to meet in person, but sometimes there are people on 2-3 continents. The sound quality nowadays is often worse than in the 1930s, so communication is challenging.

If you receive a bill for $300 and write a check for $800, there will be a $500 credit every time. I've been doing that on and off for 30 years. Nowadays, I pay by phone if necessary. Many phones work in the EU, but in Africa or some Asian countries not so much unless on the Wi-Fi.

    N.V.M.e. or "Envy Me"?

M.2 cards have such small capacity, I'm not sure that the hassle and cost are worthwhile. I'd rather have U.2 ports and a smaller number of larger drives that don't have the heat issues.
