Nope, all the ones I've used are ~$500 new. Dell is about to release [urlhttp://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=04&kc=6W300&l=en&oc=pct2324&s=bsd]this one[/url] which looks like it could fit your needs.

    RAID 10 Sanity Check

Before I wasn't sure you were talking about SCSI, so I was hedging my answers (you weren't really specific). How many drives are you planning on using? If the # of drives per channel * the STR of the drive =! the speed of the channel (160 or 320) than it matters not. If it is an issue, the above...

    RAID 10 Sanity Check

I think you should give yourself extra points, but your theory applies more if you feel the majority of your writes will fit in a single stripe, otherwise you're screwed either way.

    DVD Changer for Data

This is what I thought you were talking about, a system that could automatically access all the disks stored within (one at a time of course), not some glorified filing cabinet. I used to have a 4-disk CD-ROM drive, it was the same size as a standard one but would take 4 disks (one at a time -...

Exactly...everything but the instinct part. I just say yes. I currently have an AS/400 under my control, but I'm phasing it out as I have no idea how to work it. Dunno, I only seem to see them in retrospect. Things like not going to college, taking a job, doing heavy drugs, starting a business, etc. It seems the last fork that is forced on you is the "college/not". After that you get a job and can go on cruise control until retirement/death if you so...

    Firewall question

Late to the party again....sorry. My suggestion would be to connect the orange on smoothie to one of the LAN ports on your hardware router. That way you are only using the DHCP server and not bothering with another layer of NAT/BS... Just a thought.

    Sealed plastic clamshell packaging

I think the winner of the "sensible retail packaging award" goes to Thermalright. Their retail products ship in non-wax covered brown cardboard boxes with minimal inserts and plastic bags. Here we are given 3 waste containers, the first is very large and is only for yard waste. The third can is tiny, probably...

Of the CPU cooler? I'm not sure I understand the question. If you are speaking of the 4U rack linked by BooST, I have no experience. The 3U version that I linked to has nothing above the motherboard tray to the top of the chassis, leaving plenty of room for every cooler I've used.
