Those pictures are really amazing Tony. If I lived in a place as beautiful and open as that, I would also be tempted to spend significant amounts of time without people (a great source of anxiety for me). And with a pleasant travel companion such as Tea, it only makes it more appealing.

    Poll: Anyone like to cook?

I love cooking, but the combination of no time and no company makes it much less rewarding. I look forward to living with my girlfriend, every time we get together we cook something good. Last time it was enchiladas, lasagne, and tequila-lime chicken. I think some Thai food is on the list this...

Easy way to fry your new industrial motherboard, SCSI, etc

Re: Easy way to fry your new industrial motherboard, SCSI, e IIRC, this was my first disaster as well. Was the socket 2 the one that supported 486 and 586 chips (therefore not being keyed to prevent a misaligned 486 chip? I remember looking at the top of the CPU when I first fired it up (no...

    Opinions on Ghost 9

Not having to use boot disks was a great improvement to the average user, not having to reboot at all sounds even better to me. My only concern is how they've managed to do this? I'm hoping they haven't gotten all crazy in the OS, like adding an abstraction layer or anything...

    PCI-X and PCI-E: Why?

  24. ddrueding

    PCI-X and PCI-E: Why?

So PCI-X is a brute-force kludge that is here to deal with excess demand on current technology, while PCI-E is a new architecture that promises higher speeds at lower costs (eventually). Do I have it right? Will servers eventually go PCI-E?

    PCI-X and PCI-E: Why?

IRC, those are 1x PCI-E slots. Wasnt the spec to include different sized slots for the different speed ranges? The one that replaces AGP is clearly a 16x slot.

Just for the record, the backplate on the MSI K8N boards isn't glued on. It does, however have a layer of very "spongy" non-conductive pad that tends to vacum-seal to the board.
