    Where's everybody?

No one on in the middle of a Sunday night? Darn... I know! I'll create a second identity, and have conversations with myself! What an original thought... Meh. Back to work.

    Where's everybody?

Pulling another unanticipated all-nighter. 1. Came in here this morning to troubleshoot a slow connection. 2. Notice that the workstations are full of spyware/viruses. 3. Notice that the server is the most hosed SBS2k3 install I've ever seen. 4. Notice that there are no backups. A. Build new...

Winter ended here on Friday. 72F and sunny ever since. I'll be leaving for Houston, TX on Wed. Why couldn't the relatives live in the only decent city in Texas (Austin)?

I would guess it is the same one. I haven't looked at 3rd party defraggers in a long time, but last I checked O&O was the one to have.

    voice recognition software that works...

I use the one built into Vista. Can't compare it to others, but it works really well for me. The important thing is to get a good headset microphone, any that aren't fixed to your head are too vulnerable to inconsistency.

    CF as a hard drive

Some CF cards and adapters don't support DMA, so make sure it is off. Also, some have a jumper to choose master/slave/CS and a jumper to source power (either IDE pin 40 for VIA EPIA systems or external for everybody else).

Server 2003 install of SP2 failing

I've tried this either through windows update or by downloading the file directly from the site. I've tried reboots and it never appears in add/remove programs. Significantly into the SP2 installation it pops up the following error and goes away. Help?

    Multiple Video Cards and MPC?

Media Player Classic is awesome. And it can output video to any display hooked up to your primary video card. But it goes blank or crashes when outputting to a screen driven by another video card. Has anyone else run into this? Is there another player I should be looking at?

Apparently my new motherboard doesn't like my RAM. I didn't even bother to check it, since the same 4 1GB sticks ran in my old system flawlessly for about a year. Sure enough, trying to track down some instabilities has me running memtest where even single-sticks in certain slots is...

Amazingly my soft-RAID-0 array survived yet another motherboard swap, this one to an XFX 780i SLI board. (Semi)unfortunatly, Vista didn't like it as much.
