    VoIP woes: Troubleshooting?

That is the impression those sources left me with as well. That the unregulated incoming connection and the large number of open connections (common with BT users - correctable in some firmwares) can mess things up regardless.

    VoIP woes: Troubleshooting?

I have a Linksys 350N that is flashed with the DD-WRT firmware. I have the MAC of the Vonage box set as high priority in the QoS.

    It's HOT

Based on where I'm looking and the basic design, solar or wind would be enough; I'm planning to have both. The primary concern is sizing the battery bank. Water gathering/storage/filtration is another issue. And the one I know how to deal with but don't want to is septic.

Yup, I suspect that one of those will be phasing out my Raptor RAID-0 for games...maybe two in RAID-0 for all the OS/Apps/page...no wonder I don't have any money...

    More Vista nonsense

Seconded. I could understand that a standard disk needs a certain access pattern to optimize it's cache, but an SSDs primary advantage is the near-zero access time to anything on the disk! This means that no optimization should be necessary!

I know you could with the previous generation, but I don't think you can with the new ones. But now that they are providing that functionality themselves, I don't think it matters as much.

Nice. I'm totally enjoying the 10-22. I'm finding that it is the best, most expressive lens I have...unless the object it too far away. And by too far I mean more than a couple feet away for most things and about 20 feet away for large buildings. But other than that, I love it.

    backing up solutions

With small companies, things tend to go "fast and loose" with regard to backups. Congrats on trying to get a handle on things. There are two 2 methods that I can see working in this scenario: 1. Have a server in the office store a backup of everything, have the laptops sync to it during lunch...

MAC and PC common storage help

Nope. As long as the machine the hard drive is connected to can read the file system, it will handle passing the data to the other machine. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a mac person, so I can't walk you through sharing the drive, but this looks pretty good.

Congratulations. A spammer has chosen to use your e-mail address as the "from" address in a spam campaign. Considering 99% of the addresses they are sending to don't exist, the mailer-daemon at those domains is letting the sender (you) know that the address doesn't exist. I suggest setting up a...

Games perform poorly with dual core AMD?

I'm loving the new racing game GRID, as it can keep my quad core at 75-85% full at all times, and suck up 1.5GB of RAM on it's own. It's good that games can take advantage of modern hardware.

MAC and PC common storage help

I would go with option #3. Sharing on the network should be really easy and it gives you access to the data from both machines at the same time. Is one a desktop? If so I would share it from there. What is the OS of any desktop machine (or least mobile laptop) you have?

MAC and PC common storage help

FAT32 is simple and easy and LOTS of people do it, so any future troubleshooting will be easy to find help with/for. That was my thought, I was even thinking of experimenting with powering off the 12 750GB HDDs and 3 120mm fans that drive them when I don't need the data array (gaming, surfing, whatever). Not sure how the OS would like it, but it's worth looking into.

    Rigging power supplies together?

Tempted, but I really want to avoid this. I need 15 SATA power connectors, only 4 Molex, 1 6-pin PCI-E, 1 8-pin Motherboard, and the larger ATX connection. What I had to do with the Seasonic was order more SATA modular power cables; if they are wired in I don't have that option.

Yup. About 30 minutes to download the 179MB file. Another 10 in windows before the reboot, and another 10 in Stages 1 and 2. Stage 3 is absolutely crawling; I suspect it is due to the fairly complex hardware configuration (can't think of another reason). Now at 58% after about 90 minutes.

SSDs - State of the Product?

One at a time the RAID card can handle it fine. Having two in RAID-0 nearly doubled performance, but adding the third only increased another 15% or so, so I think I then hit the bottleneck. I'm fairly certain I'm getting the most speed I can, I just don't think the drives are the weak link.
