    Ubuntu 9.04 NBR GRUB trouble

This did the trick. I don't know what was going on with the hard drive, but the new version installed just fine from USB after I did this and let it run. Thanks!

I can't remember the last time I went over ISO 400, most are at 100, so that isn't the source of my noise. Some of these are long exposures (10s-30s) but I'm getting some noise in the gradation of the sky that is annoying me. I'll try and find some samples. I have a 10-22 that is still...

    dSLR thread

I don't think I'm willing to step away from Canon at this point. I'm too comfortable with the tools, interface, and product lineup at the moment. I'm currently reconsidering a T1i and a 17-40L. That lens should be up for 15MP, and the crop body means the corners don't have to be as nice. I would...

    Swine Flu

People don't like that here, either. I have fiber running from the office to my house; my home office is on the main office LAN. It takes as long to walk from my house to the boss' office as it does from my office in the west wing. There is absolutely no reason why I can't work from home all the...

    Ubuntu 9.04 NBR GRUB trouble

The sound works fine. The only thing I used that didn't work is the WLAN indicator light. The switch still worked to turn on and off the wireless, but the little LED didn't work. No biggie.

I go to work one way or the other, I just lock my door, put a note on it, and don't see anyone. I work everything through the phone and remote desktop. Just another way to remind people that I don't actually need to be present more than 5 hours a week.

I've heard several times that cheap macro lenses have high quality (was it Tannin that said it?). What is the deal there? That pano is great, lots of detail and fun to explore. What hardware/settings/software did you use?
  13. ddrueding

    dSLR thread

I believe in good optics, I'm just not sure that a $700 L lens isn't up to the task. I am a big fan of panos, but I've shot most of them with a 35/2 on a 1.6-crop body. That would be 21-ish with a FF sensor, and I'm still wishing for a little more from time to time. Quite a few of my shots have...

To be fair, it isn't like Microsoft products don't have critical security issues that aren't fixed for at least six months, they just keep their mouths shut about it.

    Ubuntu 9.04 NBR GRUB trouble

Unfortunately, the BIOS has no settings whatsoever beyond time and boot order. I had previous versions of Ubuntu installed on here fine, and once it is running from the stick it sees the drive and all it's contents. Really weird.

Crap, another post gone (my fault) Thanks Lunar for the writeup. I've read it quite a few times, and have a few questions. 1. Can you show or link to an image that is lens limited? I don't think that is my problem. Half my lenses are primes, and my "walk around" set is 5 lenses. I'm also more than happy to walk around with only 2 primes (35/2 and 50/1.8 ). I can deal with limited lengths to get better glass. So what are the lenses you would suggest at the wide end? I...

    ESATA/USB Drive Enclosures/Adapters

There are plenty of ways to kill a drive using these enclosures, but nearly all of them involve user error. Pulling the drive too fast, formatting the wrong drive, etc. I wouldn't worry about that so much, so long as you are careful.
