    Religion Flow Chart

My question was actually based on a true story. At one point (and only one point), I was dating a fairly religious girl. At the time I was a very good, upstanding, and law-abiding individual. She was obsessed with "saving" me, yet the only thing she wanted to do was get me to church.

My HTPC died! New Build Time!

For the record, the onboard video on my ASUS board was unable to drive the DVI and HDMI ports simultaneously, so it now has an ATI video card in it that can.

uda, I'm not sure if you've noticed, but there is a remarkable signal/noise ratio in other people's posts here. Have you noticed that yours are a serious outlier? I'm not saying there aren't tidbits of useful information in there; you've brought bits of knowledge on SSDs and cameras to the...

    Religion Flow Chart

I think the shackles are the "or else" part of any structured religion. It's the part you have to do for no other reason then belief in their claims. If I am a good person, always acting generously, etc, basically doing everything that the christian religions ask except believing in god or...

    Bulletproof browser area?

This is someone's home computer. They have teenagers that do the myspace / facebook thing. As unfortunate a situation as it is, a presence on those sites is more important than having a phone number for that age group, and denying them access really would be a "punishment". These places are also...

    Bulletproof browser area?

I have some users that insist on browsing unsafe sites. They know the problems, and are looking for a way to do what they want without getting hurt. My backup plan is running a VM with Firefox, but are there better tools out there? Are they effective? Sandboxie? What is the least-intrusive...

    Small build

I use them regularly, even on my higher-end builds. If the motherboard supports smart fan speed control, I wouldn't think twice. The copper-bottomed ones are better, so if you have one of those, use it.

I did enjoy that game, though certain sections were frustrating, with luck being the deciding factor. My favorite was the bonus scenario you get to play after you beat the game, played that many times.

Following up on this issue, even after I switched back to XP it only showed 8GB of RAM. Removing even one stick (any one stick) brought it down to 4GB. So I tried upgrading the RAM, and it works fine! Old memory: Corsair XMS3 1600MHz 12GB (6x2GB) 9-9-9-24 1.60V ver8.1 HX3X12G1600C9 New...

    Windows 7 nonsense

This is a big thing. I managed to prevent all my clients from going Vista, I never had to support it in an office. Even before 7 had come out I had clients asking when their conversion date was. That is when I get to sit down with the owner of a business and explain to them what a "business...

    24GB+ of RAM?

Great looking board, Merc. Good find. Right now I have it, a rackmount chassis with 900W redundant PSU and 2.5" bays, a pair of quad-core 2.33Ghz Xeons, 6 4GB FBDIMMs, 5 60GB Vertex SSDs, and a 750GB 2.5" drive for backups in my cart. All this for $3500. Insane. I'm still coming out way ahead...

Agreed. 5 would probably be enough, we get the occasional "Hi" post before the spam, but 5 should be good. Just 1 or 2 people with mod privileges would be enough, just give them the ability to delete new-ish accounts and all their posts.

    24GB+ of RAM?

Kingston is the plan, they are just cheap and seem to always work. Crucial is good as well, but seems to be more expensive. It made sense when they were the best, but they share that rep now.
  46. ddrueding

    24GB+ of RAM?

That isn't bad, actually. Just spec up the CPUs a bit, add the second PSU and the support for all the drive bays that are all already there (can't believe this isn't standard), and that is only at $3k. Not bad at all.

    24GB+ of RAM?

Dammit, I had a great response that got eaten, so you'll get the short version. 1. If you don't have the expensive licenses (vMotion), having one big pool is the most efficient use of your resources, and makes it much easier to manage. 2. If you do have the expensive licenses, you are paying...

    24GB+ of RAM?

The amount of memory I can fit in a VMWare ESXi server is the bottleneck to how many VMs it will run. What is the cheapest way to get a machine with 24GB+ of RAM? I can find non-ECC/Buffered 4GB DIMMs for $150. I usually don't bother with that stuff, but 24GB is quite a bit of RAM. The ECC...
