    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

I have to go with Merc on this one. If you want fast drives for OS/Apps, nothing compares with SSDs. They are the fastest game in town many times over. Older benchmarks might not show it, but they just are.

    Bluray software puzzle...

When I'm using an ATI card, I download the latest from ATI directly. Same with nVidia and Intel for motherboards.

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

No one has on-board SATA6 yet. And the odds of that including PCI-X are massively low.

But you never know, it could be a good reason. ;) Then again, if you used Google for your mailserver, they have a webpage that displays current status of all their apps, including progress and predicted repair time.

While all great ideas, they are also all over $2k. At the moment I am torn between the 85/1.8 and the 100/2. Both are around $400, and both are longer than my current primes (35/2 and 50/1.8 ) and faster than my current zoom (75/4-300/5.6). I would love the 135/2 that Handy has, but it is too...

SSDs - State of the Product?

While sluggish compared to other SSDs, it is blistering compared to 2.5" HDDs. This is a clear upgrade option, and for only $129, it is a no-brainer.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I've put 30GB Vertex into MSI U100 and U123 without issue (there is a small foam pad you can remove, not like the SSD needs vibration damping).

SSDs - State of the Product?

Very interesting. I'll need to compare them to the Vertex 30GB. I wonder if they are the same performance as the X25-M? If so, why change the name?

I think we are running into a correlation/causation thing. Those who tend to use corporal punishment are discipline-minded, and therefore are likely consistent in their rules and enforcement than those who don't. Since we are working on having a kid, I pay a lot of attention to kids in public...

    Driver problem (safe mode)

Having as many updates as possible on the install media is always a better option. If for no other reason than less space being eaten up on the drive with uninstall stuff.

    PCI-X SATA 2.0 Raid controller?

I think the problem is that the hardware is from 2005...they weren't even thinking SSD.

Shot my first night football game last night. I ended up retreating to the 50/1.8 at 1600ISO because it was so dark. I keep thinking about a 100-400, but without higher ISO settings, it wouldn't be practical in too many applications. Edit: I think the 85/1.8 would have been the right lens.

    Online backup

The fiber line I installed for them did more than backup. They shared the internet connection, and a file server, and use it for LAN games. I think they even got a slingbox and are splitting a cable subscription. My fiber is in a pressurized armored sleeve in a hardened conduit buried 4 feet...

Routers (and therefore internet connections) are slow. Instead of sending data to your friend via the internet, run a point-to-point fiber-optic cable to their house and use that for data transfer. I helped a couple friends do this.
