A 4" reach is great, but $150? Wow. Thanks, though. That is the best I've seen to date.

Do you choose stone as a unit of measure because the numbers are smaller? Or because fewer of us will know what it actually means? :p

What do you think of this laptop?

The specs look great, and ASUS has a generally decent reputation for build quality, but it falls down with regard to service. Before you buy, just try to get a hold of their technical support. If you are happy with that experience, go for it.

I know that is what I did. If I was into photography at the time, it would have been better. When I was single it was far more fun than when I wasn't.

Old hard drive Seagate ST351A/X error, blinking LED

Welcome to StorageForum. If the BIOS won't detect the drive, you really are in trouble. Have you tried connecting it to another computer? As a secondary hard drive? Using an external enclosure perhaps? Worst-case, you can try swapping the circuit board from an identical drive, but I've only had...

I can do all the pushups, situps, and chinups, but fuck running. That is for when you are being chased ;)

When did you give up training?

Right about now, actually. In the past, when I noticed I was out of shape (over 200lbs, I'm 6'2"), I would do something about it. It isn't looking good at the moment.

    Dell 2001FP

You can replace your 2001FP for <$200. Comparing the cost to repair a cheaper LCD with the new cost of a more expensive LCD seems a logic trap. Considering this mid-step, chancing a repair seems less wise.

    Hardware RAID Enclosures

I was recently informed that the Samsung 1.5TB drives are not on the "known good" list for Areca, and service is suffering slightly because of it. Just something to keep in mind...

    Hardware RAID Enclosures

I'm afraid I don't have much experience with that stuff. Even if a single drive is enough, I'd recommend RAID-1 or -10 for a DAW, as it is considerably less jittery while streaming writes. When I was at Dolby Labs all the systems had a single HDD or RAID-1. Even if all you can source there is a...

I'm in need of something and can't believe I can't find it. I need a tool that can punch a hole in a piece of paper, much like an ordinary hand punch, but with one special requirement. I need to be able to punch single holes anywhere on a sheet of 8.5"x11" transparency with some accuracy. Hole...

PC Gaming = World of Suck

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is a decent game with pretty graphics that my machine could just barely manage @ 1920x1080 maxed out. Game play was short, though, about 8 hours.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

The new Command and Conquer is truly awful. I've never seen such bad graphics @ 1920x1080. Gameplay sucks as well. Its as if they thought that coding for base creation was too hard, so the don't let you anymore. Battlefield: Bad Company is good so far, played for about 4 hours.

I'm not old enough to have "back in my day" lines; but the TV we had when I was a kid had two channels, and one of them only came in if you were touching the antenna. Then I tried to "fix" it when I was 8 or 9, and we didn't have a TV at all for a couple years. ;)

The 50GB disks are fine, the new disks will require a new player, but are likely only to be for data; even 3D, 1080P, extended edition films will easily fit on a 50GB disk. Of course, the new players will be able to support all the current formats as well.
