    Windows 7 file transfer weirdness

Nope. If you tell it to do a bunch of simultaneous file transfers, it will do what you ask. If you choose a bunch of files at once and copy them somewhere, you have given the OS the choice to do them sequentially, and it will. Of course, if all your drives were SSDs, you wouldn't have this...

Because a refrigerator lacks the capacity to deal with the amount of heat I'm generating. Building a giant TEC-cooled enclosure with the machine in it is a neat idea though. Perhaps that is next.

What turned me on to her wasn't any of the images from the site, but from the Audi magazine I get. Something about using every pixel to the fullest, tack sharp and full contrast throughout. I had considered using a peltier in combination with my CPU waterblock, but I can always do that later if I need it. The condensation is a scary thing as well.

I've read that all the dyes will eventually decompose and gum up the works, so my final configuration will be distilled water with some silver in it to stop growth. I've decided to mount the system to the wall. Motherboard, GPU, and Z-Drive on top, with the radiator, pump, and power supply in a...

    What motivates people

I would agree as well. There were some neat TED talks about motivation and marketing, I'll try and find them. I know the reason I put in crazy hours at work is because after the first 10 hours I can start working the way I want to, working on projects that I consider significant longer-term.

Interesting, almost exciting. I can handle the lack of flash and viewfinder, but the controls sound like a nightmare. I wouldn't mind the smaller size one bit, and the PnS features (twilight mode, auto panos, auto HDR) could be great depending on how they are implemented. Then of course there...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

We go about once a week. Just like an ocean voyage, the first several days are fresh veggies and steaks, the last few are things that last longer. I still insist that shopping every day (or even every other) is a horrible waste of time.

    Watercooling

Interesting lessons learned today. 1. Don't mess with the system while it is on. 2. A leak does not automatically mean system failure. While poking and prodding with a temperature gauge, I slightly unscrewed one of the barbs on my GPU cooler. A trickle of water began running down the back of...

In Moscow my mother-in-law has a tiny fridge that doesn't work very well. She lives downtown, so the walk to the grocery store is only a couple blocks, and she does it every day. At best it takes her 30-45 minutes every day. This is such a ridiculous waste of time. If someone finally got the...

It is a great experiment. And for those who build high-end systems but don't make changes regularly, or for those who are pursuing really quiet machines, this is a way to go.

    Watercooling

Oh....I knew that.... I'm having issues with the Auzentech X-Fi. 170F without a fan on it (still works fine though). No way to mount a waterblock on it, and a heatsink would make it to big to fit where I want it.

    Watercooling

Before I did that I would just get a big length of hose, bury it in the ground, run a fountain pump to it, and use a liquid to liquid heat exchanger to the computer loop. I'm pretty sure this is what I'll do in the house (if I ever get it).

    Watercooling

I had, but considering the really small temperature differential between what is going into the radiator and what is coming out of the radiator, it didn't seem worthwhile. I was, however, considering branching out to more radiators in parallel. This might allow me to cool the system passively...

    Watercooling

That would be the flaw in the logic right there. I don't care about the temperature of the water, just the waterblock. Try to explain your position while only describing the temperature of the waterblock, not the water. The bigger the differential, the more heat gets transferred. Therefore I...

    Watercooling

I am planning on slowing the pump, but only to reduce the noise. As far as heat absorption goes, I'm not looking to heat any part of the water to a certain temperature so that isn't really an issue.

    Watercooling

700RPM is required to maintain 70C at full load. Still fairly quiet, but not enough. I could wire in a thermal management system to ramp up the fans, but I really don't like noise. I'm reconsidering sticking the radiator and pump in another room. This would make my office free of moving parts if...

    Watercooling

Interesting. There is enough thermal capacity in the system to run max load with no fans (so long as the pump is going) for about 5 minutes. With the fans just above stall speed (420RPM, completely inaudible), it will idle forever, but at load it will slowly build temps for about 15 minutes...

    Watercooling

An appropriate amount of arctic silver 3 thermal compound is in there, otherwise it would fry immediately I think. I suspect that the water is nowhere close to it's capacity; the water going into the radiator is barely a degree warmer than the water coming out of it, which is the same as the...

Interesting temperature response on the CPU. 36C while idle (the water is 30C). When I execute the Prime95 torture test, it jumps in less than a second to 60C and holds there forever. When I stop the test, it drops in less than a second back to 36C. Looks like I need to improve the thermal...

As I am removing the major sources of heat via water and turning down the airflow, I'm finding secondary sources of heat that need addressing. The processor on the RAID card that is part of the OCZ Z-Drive it the hottest bit on the system (48.3C even with a small heatsink) so it is getting a...

I've now rebuilt the loop with the blocks mounted to the hardware, but outside the chassis.
