Time for the shop vac. Just keep some distance, or you might suck components off the boards ;)

    Running cat 6 cable

Extra depends on where you are terminating them. If you are mounting a rack to the wall, and it is unlikely to move in the future, I would just leave a few feet. In the rooms will you be terminating to wall jacks?

Nope. If you think sleeping with a small noise every 30 minutes is hard, try it with earplugs ;)

    Running cat 6 cable

Frys I think? I don't know if it was intended to be baseboard, and it was a fairly cheap plastic, but it took paint and worked well.

In my place I'm tearing down sheetrock everywhere and installing conduit. The last time I did it myself without opening the walls, I got a special baseboard that acted as a conduit.

Everything in moderation, including moderation. I am an incredibly light sleeper. So much so that I used to think I was an insomniac, as I could never fall asleep. Then I started staying in nice hotels on high floors. Related: has anyone here tried a sensory deprivation tank?

The screen is already acquired and in use got nearly two years. I suppose I could buy a new one if this one was unsuitable in some significant way, but I'd rather not. The wall unit has yet to be completely designed, much less built, so other than the size and material (hardwood, wall to door...

Much of it beyond what is visible in the attachment is still up for grabs. The couch is facing a full-height wall unit approx 1' deep, including a 110" fixed projection screen and a bunch of drawers/cabinets/shelves whose layout has yet to be determined. The screen is not of the acoustically...

It is for the bedroom. Two purposes, to isolate noise (in and out) and to deaden the acoustics as much as possible inside the room.

My favorite is at our ready mix plants. Powdered cement gets in case, humid morning sets it off, repeat daily. It'll kill a computer in a couple months.

    Audio Equipment

Some compromise is necessary, as it is the living room and not a dedicated theater. That doesn't mean I don't want something that sounds good within the envelope that has been defined by my wife. And putting the speakers on shelves is nothing compared to the obstacle that is the shape of the...

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

Thanks for all the feedback guys. If I can get away with shrinking the room 4" in each dimension, I'll be doing the 5/8+GG+5/8+1" Fiberglass+Fabric. Owens Corning is still the only supplier I can find whose fabric is large enough to do my bedroom ceiling seamlessly (14'x13').

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

While I agree that it would seem to be an effective solution, I'm having a hard enough time selling the wife on a fabric that at least looks like a normal wall from a distance. I may end up having to going with the dual-layer 5/8 just because it would look normal.

The house is a really big toy, knowing what I'm doing is second to the experience. ;) And I am learning as I go, the last time you mentioned green glue I read about that for an hour. It does indeed look like the best way to stop sound from going through a wall. On my own I had learned of the...

Having speakers that sit in the room on their own isn't an option aesthetically. I can have them built in to the cabinet, flush to the face, or I can put them in the ceiling like the surrounds will be.

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

I've already blocked massive amounts of sound transmission into the room, using 3" of expanding foam insulation and one of these. Now I want to make it acoustically dead internally. Not good for recording or listening, dead. Anechoic chamber dead if possible. Putting up hard sheetrock will not...

I want to buy this. It is obviously an easy DIY install, but I can't find a single place with it listed for sale. I know the core is just fiberglass panels, but the part I care about is the retention track and seamless fabric. Hours of Googling has gotten me nowhere. Can anyone here help?

Thinking of getting a pair of good speakers for my birthday. These would be the front right/left of the home theater system, and I was considering Polk LSi9 (eBay, ~$700/pair). Unfortunately, the cabinetry that they will be going into was only going to be 12" deep. Are there good bang/buck...
