A combination of a faulty old breaker and a faulty old borrowed tool led to me getting electrical burns on my fingers a few minutes ago. I'm not happy. It also destroyed by new extension cord (vaporized the prong).

Yup. Which is why I don't have one. ;) There are many homebrew projects out there that do the basics well, just waiting for something cheaper/easier to come along.

    little linux file system help

I know that Acronis allows "block level" imaging that may help you preserve what you have. The rest will have to wait for a *nix guy.

4K sector drives and RAID cards

I'm just guessing, but I bet the RAID guys have simply not put 4k drives on the HCL and consider the problem solved for now. I agree that a firmware update would likely be necessary.

Zombie processes on an RDP server?

Of course, the only way to be really certain it is an implementation issue is to recreate the environment and see if the problem also recurs. That is a lot of work, and pointing a finger at them is less work. ;)

Zombie processes on an RDP server?

Does it happen when you log onto the TS and run the app locally? Does it happen for all users?

That does indeed seem to be the case. Looks like I'll be going the analog route, then. Hooking it up to a DVD recorder and ripping what I'm after.

Nope. Lucky in that regard. It isn't exactly the same size, as it has dried/shrunk in the last 50 years, but it is dimensional lumber. Liberating TSP files from a dead DVR

PVR Explorer Pro does run on all the files, and says something about an offset before converting to MPG at 200MB/s+, so it must be easy. I'm wondering if the files it is crashing on are encrypted, compared to the ones that work that aren't?

Around here it is standard practice to connect the Neutral to the Ground at the main box, with that Ground going to two 8' copper stakes set into the ground 8' apart, and also wired to the water main as it enters the house, with an additional bridge across the water meter.

I don't think you are thinking of the product that I am using. Even though the power comes in at 220, the only things that don't run 110 are the major appliances. Because of that the rating is in 110, with a 100A box being fused with a pair of 50A breakers linked together (one per phase).

Quite so. My house was built in 1960, and done quite poorly. I had first planned to leave the configuration alone and simply replace everything in place.
