    Quiz: Coders or killers?

Weird thing is that I was mostly going by gut feel; didn't recognize any of them. That's how I got 3 wrong. There was a guy who looked like a nut-case, but was a sw inventor, and the killer in the tie fooled me too.

    Zip program with specific features

Thanks for the replies. CityK, I don't want to end up with a single archive file. That means I don't want the directory structure (and all of the files) inside the archive. Blake has understood what I'm trying to do. Ideally, the original filename is left intact, and the archive type (zip...

    Zip program with specific features

Anybody know of a Zip program that'll do this: Replicate a given tree structure and each file in it to a new destination, compressing during replication. In other words, I don't want a 6-level tree structure with 35 directories and 2000 files total being compressed down to one archive file...

    Dell 1800FP TFT - thoughts?

IMHO, the 1900FP and the newer 1901FP have much better specs. I know somebody with a Dell 1700FP; it sucks so bad, I couldn't use it if it were my monitor. I also got a 1900FP for somebody; it's an absolutely gorgeous, beautiful monitor; a pleasure to look at and use all day.

    Review of new Toyota Prius

A family I know (that lived in Texas) moved to London (guy's company offered him the top post there). I understand the DL tests are extremely stringent there; you fail for the most (what we could consider) innocuous reasons. After a couple of years of using their American licenses, time is...

Viewing digital pics on a DVD

Can anybody suggest software that can burn pics on a CD so it can be viewed on a DVD/TV? Support for folders will be helpful. Ideally, should be capable of navigation; next pic, previous pic, up one level, etc. Prog needs to be Windows based. Freeware will be ideal, but a reasonable price will...

No matter what, no matter how your idea is perceived, patent them first before you do anything else. I'm serious. I've had several ideas I did nothing about, and they've come to market. I could have been velly velly lich by now if I hadn't been (and continue to be) such a sloth.

Should I upgrade from IE 5.5 to IE 6.0?

I know, I know, a lot of you gag at the mention of the word, but for many reasons, IE is my main browser. I use FB 0.7 about 40% of the time. Way back, I read something somewhere that IE 6 was evil, and stayed with 5.5. I can't even remember now what I read. Any reasons not to upgrade? Thanks...

    Inwall Speakers

Holy crap, you guys scare me. Is this the U.S. we're talking about or some third world country with no regard for the environment? I guess I'd better ask here if I ever move. Great as the web is, finding this kind of info is next to impossible; either it ain't there or the S/N is too poor.

    New Flicker In Monitor

How old is it? It may be dying. In my experience from some years ago, Samsung montiors tended to die early. My Viewsonic PT775, purchased circa April 1999 and in use since then (except for one year in-between when it was in the box) exhibits symptoms of flicker when viewing an all white page...

HP agrees with Tannin, Merc, et. al.

I was trying to point out that the reason HP is doing this is because the mom-pop types account for a big chunk of the market. Because they offer faster, better service that the big guys can't match. Wasn't this point debated at length with y'all on one side and Mr. H. Dell on the other?

There's a grocery-store employees strike going on here. Reason: health benefits are being cut and employees are being asked to pay more for it. I heard on the radio that the public subsidises Walmart. They don't offer health-insurance (or it's woefully inadequate), so when a Walmart employee...
