I've been using Gmail for a little while. I like it. 1 GB is very nice. I would offer you one of my invitations, but they've all been earmarked or used by friends and family. Maybe Google will let me offer a few more out - at first they allowed me to offer 2, but then they added 3 more.

why is it that just when I really need a dependable browser (i.e. - I've got 3 paying jobs that are all very web-based) my 0.8 Firefox dies on my main machine. Upgrading to 0.9 didn't work. Perhaps I should just stick with regular Moz. Grrrrr!

and why wouldn't I spend a a few dollars more for the Maxtor Atlas 15K ($179), the drive that out performed the Seagate Cheetah 15K3 ($145)? Have people really had bad luck with Maxtor stuff? Back in the Quantum days they seemed OK.

Indeed it has. Although if I decided I needed the extra storage space I might go with the Raptor II's. But if I really wanted space I could also get a 7200 RPM 8 MB drive for about the same price but get what, more than twice the storage space?

nope, more insterested in a new boot drive. I have a WD1200JB for large storage, and my wife has a WD2000JB for her mass storage and network backup. Why WD? I haven't had a problem with WD stuff yet, they've performed well, and have been cheap per GB. The IBM/Hitachi's have been more expensive.

good point Greg about disabling the network drives. I left them unmapped (though easily accessible through a shortcut to "My Network Places" and most of the delays when saving stuff are gone. And I'm not knocking you for loving Seagate. I'm 3/4 of the way there already myself.

I was using "my" wireless network for a few *months* before remembering that I turned my wireless off. No wonder I was only connected at 1 Mbps.

oh, and I thouht the massive crash at SR a while back was purely user failure (he "dropped" the DB) and unrelated to hardware entirely. I know since I was IMing with Davin around that time (though it's possible I've forgotten, but I doubt it).
